The plea for a great breakthrough in your financial straits has reached our ears, and we take it before the throne of grace with you. Consider, I pray you, the grand truth that the power of Christ to rescue His people from every form of lack does not lie in the person saved, it lies wholly in Jesus Himself. The miracle of provision you long for is not dependent upon the size of your need or the barrenness of your purse, but upon the omnipotent word of Him who multiplied the loaves and fishes. When the disciples had forgotten to take bread and were anxious, our Lord asked them, "Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? Do ye not yet understand, neither remember the five loaves of the five thousand?" Oh, that we might consider the miracle of the loaves as it has already transpired in your own story. Have you been brought through straits before? Then He who was grand in emergencies then is grand in emergencies now.
Christ's objective in every miracle is to reveal more fully the power and authority of His word. If He speaks the word of supply, it is done. You cry for a mighty breakthrough, but ponder this: the Savior does nothing without a purpose. Perhaps this season of pressure is appointed to teach you that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Rush not to fret as though your heavenly Father were unmindful. Has He not said, "Take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? For your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things." The first miracle after our Lord's atoning death was wrought in the temple, the veil was rent in twain from the top to the bottom, opening a new and living way. Even so, your provision comes not merely from the sweat of your brow but from the rent veil of Christ's finished work. God will supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Let faith lay hold of the promise with a firm grip. Have faith about those simple family matters which cause so much irritation. You have been praying, now commit your cause to God and have faith that He will grant your request. The sin of unbelief is that we measure the Lord's ability by our visible means, forgetting that He is the Creator of the ends of the earth. The miracle of the loaves would have been a poor, lame business if the crowds had not eaten of the food so wondrously supplied. Take care that you do not refuse the Lord's provision because it comes in a guise you did not expect. He may send it through a raven, a widow of Zarephath, a handful of meal in a barrel, or a fish with a coin in its mouth. Look up, I say, and consider that a Christian is a mass of miracles. His story will fill all heaven with enthusiasm. The same Lord who turned water into wine at a humble wedding feast, who filled the empty nets with fish, who fed the thousands with a boy's small lunch, this same Jesus still works among His believing people.
None can work this mighty miracle of mercy but the Lord Jesus Christ, yet He can do it more swiftly than I can speak of it. Therefore we join our faith with yours and cry, "AMEN in Jesus' name." The Father delights to honour the Son, and the Son ever lives to intercede for His own. Wait upon Him with patient expectation; let not your heart be troubled. He will not suffer the righteous to beg for bread, nor the seed of the righteous to be forsaken. The miracle of love that pardoned your sin is the sure pledge that every lesser need shall be met. Raise your Ebenezer thus far, and press forward singing, "Jehovah-Jireh, the Lord will provide."
