Disciple of Prayer
I need help. I have lost all my savings to a scam and the bank said they will not do anything. Please pray for me to get back the money and the scammers stop their actions. They do not realise what kind of suffering they cause. No one needs this kind of financial suffering. I have three teenagers and I am a single mum. I hoped for some relief for my financial situation but instead they stole everything. I cannot understand why people wish to hurt others. Please pray for us. Thank you

We hear your cry, dear sister, and our hearts break with yours as we stand with you in this painful season. The weight of financial loss, especially when it comes through deceit and exploitation, is a heavy burden to bear, made even heavier when you carry the responsibility of providing for your precious teenagers. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), and what these scammers have done is nothing short of his work. But we serve a God who is just, who sees every injustice, and who promises to restore what the locusts have eaten (Joel 2:25). We do not serve a distant or indifferent God; He is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).

First, we must address the spiritual reality behind this attack. The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil (1 Timothy 6:10), and those who perpetrate such scams are operating under the influence of greed, deception, and spiritual blindness. We rebuke the works of darkness in this situation and command every lying spirit, every spirit of theft, and every plan of the enemy against you and your family to be broken in the mighty name of Jesus. The Lord is your defender, and He will not allow the wicked to prosper forever (Proverbs 22:8). We pray that these scammers would be exposed, stopped, and brought to justice, not only for your sake but for the sake of others they may seek to harm. May their hearts be convicted, and may they repent before it is too late.

We also lift up your financial need before the Lord, who owns the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10) and is able to supply all your needs according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). We ask Him to open doors of provision for you, whether through unexpected opportunities, the kindness of His people, or divine intervention with the bank or authorities. We pray for wisdom as you navigate this season, that you would not be anxious but would cast all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). Trust in Him, for He has not forgotten you.

Yet we must also encourage you to seek practical steps alongside your prayers. Have you reported this scam to the appropriate authorities, such as your local fraud prevention agencies or consumer protection organizations? Sometimes, persistence in following up can yield results. Additionally, we urge you to guard your heart against bitterness or despair. The enemy would love for this situation to harden your heart toward others or toward God, but we declare that you will not grow weary in doing good (Galatians 6:9). Your hope is not in money or in the justice of man, but in the Lord, who is your provider and your shield (Genesis 15:1).

We also want to gently remind you of the importance of seeking wisdom in financial matters moving forward. Proverbs 22:3 says, "A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it." We pray that the Lord would give you discernment in all future financial decisions and that He would surround you with godly counsel to help you steward what He provides.

Most of all, we pray for your teenagers. May they see Christ in you, your faith, your resilience, and your trust in God even in the midst of hardship. May this trial draw your family closer to the Lord and to one another. We declare that your children will not be lacking, for the Lord is their provider as well (Matthew 6:33). He knows their needs, and He will not forsake them.

Let us pray together now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our sister and her precious children. Lord, You see the injustice that has been done, and You are a God who executes justice for the oppressed (Psalm 103:6). We ask You to intervene in this situation, to expose the wickedness of these scammers, and to bring them to repentance. We rebuke every spirit of theft and deception in Jesus’ name, and we declare that what was meant for harm, You will turn for good (Genesis 50:20).

Father, we ask for Your provision in this time of need. Open doors that no man can shut, and provide for this family in ways that only You can. Give them wisdom, patience, and peace as they wait on You. Protect their hearts from fear, anxiety, and bitterness, and fill them with Your joy and hope. Lord, we ask that You would restore what has been lost, not just financially but emotionally and spiritually. Heal their hearts, and let them experience Your faithfulness in new and powerful ways.

We also pray for this family’s future. Give them discernment in all their decisions, and surround them with godly community to support and encourage them. May their testimony be one of Your goodness and faithfulness, even in the midst of trials. And Lord, we ask that You would draw them closer to You through this season. Let them know that You are their provider, their protector, and their peace.

We pray all of this in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus, the One who came to bind up the brokenhearted and set the captives free. Amen.

Hold fast to your faith, dear sister. The Lord has not abandoned you, and He will make a way where there seems to be no way. You are not alone, and we stand with you in prayer and support. If there are practical ways we can assist further, please do not hesitate to reach out. May the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).

We are so deeply sorry for what you’ve endured. It’s a crushing thing to have your savings drained by people who meant only to take, and we hurt with you as you carry this alone for your three teenagers. When you said “I cannot understand why people wish to hurt others,” we heard more than confusion, we heard a mother who, even in her own pain, is still trying to make sense of how anyone could be so cruel. That’s a mark of a tender heart, not a naive one. And right now you don’t need someone to explain evil; you need someone to stand with you.

Practically, please don’t try to navigate this on your own. Even though the bank declined to act, you can still file a report with your local police and with your country’s consumer protection or fraud-reporting agency, many have online forms. Some governments also offer victim assistance funds. We’d also gently encourage you to connect with a financial counselor, perhaps through a local church or community service, who can help you budget, explore debt relief options, and protect what remains. They can often help you talk to creditors in a crisis. You don’t have to have all the answers today.

We also want you to know that this loss is real, and it’s okay to grieve it. A sudden financial blow like this is a true loss, not just of money, but of security and all the hope you’d wrapped up in that relief. Be gentle with yourself as you work through that.

Let us pray for you now:

Lord Jesus, You see this mom and her children right where they are. Wrap them in Your peace that doesn’t depend on bank balances. Provide for their daily needs in unexpected ways, through neighbors, churches, agencies, or a steady hand to guide them financially. Give her wisdom as she deals with investigators and creditors, and protect her teens from fear. We ask You to stop the scammers in their tracks, to soften their hearts to see the devastation they’ve caused, and to bring justice. But most of all, hold this family close and let them know You will never leave them, even in this. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The grief you carry is heavy, and no one can call it a light thing to see the labour of years swept away by wicked hands. The bank’s refusal to act only salts the wound, and the thought of your three children looking to you makes the sting all the keener. Yet even here, at the very bottom of earthly provision, the Gospel meets you with a strange and holy comfort. For consider the Priest who “offered up Himself”, He knows what it is to be stripped, to be betrayed, to have everything taken and to stand before men as having nothing. And because He bore that poverty of soul and body, He is able now to be the true riches of all who come unto God through Him. The relief He gives is not like the partial rest of Old Testament worshippers, who went back to their homes only partly eased. The pardon Jesus gives carries within it a perfect peace that the loss of coin cannot dissolve.

I dare not pray that you simply get the money back and the scammers are stopped, as if the chief end of this sorrow were your bank balance restored. That would be to weep over a stolen purse while the house burns down. The soul is worth more than all the world’s gold heaped high; to win back every penny and yet miss Christ would be the real catastrophe. The thief who plunders a widow’s savings is a cruel-enough picture of sin, but the thief who plunders a soul, that is eternal ruin. You ask why people wish to hurt others; the answer lies in that very slavery of the heart that makes a man grasp at gain and forget that his own soul hangs over the pit. Their blindness is terrible, but yours need not be. The single eye that looks wholly to Jesus will see light even in this darkness, and a single-hearted faith will teach you to say, “I will go anywhere with Thee, Lord, even through this empty cupboard.”

Do not despise slow recovery. The child who protests she cannot learn the multiplication table because she has not mastered differential calculus is only mocking her own need. Begin at the beginning. Cry out for grace to learn the first lesson: that the Lord has a claim on your affection, and that each small increase of bread, each paid bill, is a fresh note of gratitude written to His name. The Church, as a true mother, stands ready to nurse the weak, and I would grieve to miss your face from our gathering of the needy. Bring your burden there; cast your care upon the shoulders of the Son of God, who offered Himself without spot, and you shall find that though your purse is empty, your soul may be full, full to overflowing with that peace which the world can neither give nor steal.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
