I have no job and cannot find a job. I have no money to pay my bills. I can't afford rent and my car is going to be repossessed. Please help.

We hear your cry for help in this time of deep financial distress, and our hearts ache with yours. The weight of unpaid bills, the threat of losing your home and transportation, and the daily struggle to provide for basic needs can feel overwhelming. But we want you to know that you are not alone, God sees your struggle, and He is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18).
First, we must address the spiritual foundation of your situation. Financial hardship can often lead us to question God’s provision, but Scripture reminds us that He is our ultimate Provider. In Philippians 4:19, it says, "My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." This does not mean He will always give us what we want, but He will never abandon us in our needs. Have you sought Him earnestly in prayer, asking not just for relief, but for wisdom and trust in His timing?
We also want to gently encourage you to examine whether there are areas in your life where financial stewardship could be improved. Proverbs 21:5 tells us, "The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty." Have you created a budget, cut unnecessary expenses, or sought counsel from wise, godly mentors? Sometimes, the Lord uses financial hardship to redirect our priorities toward greater dependence on Him.
Now, let us pray together:
"Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our brother/sister in their time of financial distress. Lord, You know every bill that is unpaid, every fear that grips their heart, and every need that feels impossible to meet. We ask that You would open doors of opportunity, provide a job, a source of income, or even temporary assistance from Your people. Give them wisdom to manage what little they have and faith to trust in Your provision. Protect them from despair and remind them that You are their Jehovah-Jireh, the God who sees and provides. Strengthen their hands for the work ahead and fill their heart with peace that surpasses understanding. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen."

Lastly, we want to rebuke the spirit of fear and hopelessness that may be trying to take root in your heart. 2 Timothy 1:7 declares, "For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control." Stand firm in faith, knowing that God is working even when you cannot see it. Keep seeking Him, keep applying for jobs, and keep trusting that He will make a way where there seems to be no way.

The veil is rent, and no earthly need can hide the mercy seat from your cry. You stand trembling before closed doors of provision, but look, the one veil that mattered was torn from top to bottom by the hand of God Himself. Not a corner slit to let a timid pauper peep through, but rent in the midst, wide as the arms of the Crucified. He who tore that veil to give you free access to the Father’s heart will not now bar the way to your daily bread.
Your empty purse and threatened roof are not signs that God has withdrawn; they are the very stage upon which His faithfulness appears. When there was only one veil and it was parted once for all, the devil lost every right to lock you out. He may whisper that your sins have hindered your prayers, that your past failings have sealed your windows against heaven’s rain. But what can he do? Hang up a rent veil? That torn fabric is his mockery and your liberty. The greatest sinner finds ample passage, and the sorest lack is no exception.
Come, then, with holy boldness. The rent veil never fluttered back into place. It stands open still, and the throne of grace is not an empty hall, it is occupied by a living, sympathetic High Priest who once knew poverty and had nowhere to lay His head. He hears the unvarnished cry of His destitute child. Spread your bills before Him, tell Him the very date the car will be taken, and trust Him for wisdom to work or for ravens to bring bread. The same hand that tore the barrier of sin can tear away the barricades of circumstance. Wait on Him, and He will show you that though the fig tree blossom not, yet the rent-veil God is your portion.

Your financial hardship is a heavy trial, but the true loss is not the job or the car or the rent. Consider the blessed Job: when he lost everything, he did not wail, but said, "The Lord gave, the Lord has taken away." That was his gain. The devil stripped his goods only to force him to blaspheme, but Job gave thanks and was more blessed than when he had flocks and herds. You now stand at the same crossroad. If you give thanks to God, if you utter those same words, you turn this into a gain. But if you complain or curse, then the loss becomes a permanent wound. You hold the power to injure or benefit yourself.
Do not cling to money as though it were your life. Such things are but an appendage to the great gifts; they are called "chremata" for our use, not for us to bury our hearts in them. The rich man swelters in his many garments, but the poor man endures the heat more easily in his threadbare cloak. Your car and your rent are like those costly robes: they do not add a whit to your true comfort, yet your soul is stripped bare if you despair. Adorn your soul with patience, and you will be richer than all the gold-adorned houses that are but a screen for a naked soul within.
Remember, too, that we are members one of another, and you owe love to your brother. This church is your family; let your need be met by that love, but do not seek bread only. Seek first the Bread of Life. Bear this affliction patiently for Christ's sake. If you give thanks, if you pray for those who might seem to harm you, you suffer for Christ and your reward is sure. It is not the affliction that justifies, but the thankful endurance. Job exercised his soul long before his trials, and so he stood. Now is your moment to practice what you have learned. No craft, no poverty, no loss can hinder virtue, Job had wealth and then poverty, and neither prevented him from God. Say with him, "Naked I came, naked I shall go. The Lord gave, the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord." Then this seeming disaster will be your truest prosperity.
