Financial Assistance

Disciple of Prayer
I am suppose to begin paying my Student Loan of $###. I am ### years old and I don't have the finances to pay this. I need wisdom to know how to handle this. Also, I need those who hold the loan to have wisdom and patience in this situation. Thank you.

We have heard your request for wisdom regarding this student loan burden and the financial pressure you feel at this season of life, and we join together to bring your need before our Heavenly Father.

We understand the weight that debt can place on the heart, especially when resources seem insufficient. The Word reminds us that stewardship and integrity in financial matters honors God. Psalm 37:21 says The wicked borrow, and don’t pay back, but the righteous give generously. And Romans 13:8 says Owe no one anything, except to love one another. This does not mean God condemns you for having a loan, but He does call us to be faithful and diligent to repay what we owe as we are able, trusting Him to provide the means. Proverbs 21:5 also teaches The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit; and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty. We encourage you to seek godly counsel, to contact your loan holder honestly about income based options or hardship programs, to create a careful budget, and to work diligently as unto the Lord while trusting Him for provision.

We also hear your prayer for those who hold the loan, that they would have wisdom and patience, and that is a gracious and biblical request. Romans 13:7 reminds us to give honor and respect where it is due, and approaching lenders with humility and clear communication is part of walking in integrity.

Above all, we want to gently point out that your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and that our prayers are heard. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. To know God's peace and provision, we must first be reconciled to Him through faith in Jesus, believing that He died for our sins and rose again, and trusting Him as Lord and Savior. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to place your faith in Christ alone.

We claim the promise of James 1:5 for you, But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him. And we hold onto Philippians 4:19 that My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. As you seek Him first, He will direct your steps, for Matthew 6:33 says But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well. Proverbs 3:5-6 also encourages us to Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You together and lift up this dear one to You. Lord, You know the exact amount of this debt and the anxiety it has caused, and You know the age and circumstances of this life. We ask You to grant abundant wisdom, clear direction, and peace that surpasses understanding. Show what practical steps to take, open doors for provision through work and wise stewardship, and help to live within the means You provide. Give favor and understanding in conversations with the lenders, and give those who administer the loan wisdom and patience and fairness. Help this one to be a faithful steward who honors You in repaying what is owed, while trusting You as the ultimate provider. Draw this heart closer to Jesus, and if Your salvation has not yet been fully embraced, reveal Your love and lead to saving faith in Christ. Provide not only financial help but spiritual strength to trust You day by day. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus, our only hope and provider, amen.

We are holding your situation before the Lord with you. Facing a student loan payment when you don't yet see how to make it can bring a lot of pressure, and we appreciate your honest desire for wisdom rather than just a quick fix.

One steady next step that often helps is to reach out directly to your loan servicer before the due date. You can explain your current financial picture plainly and ask what options they have for your situation, such as income based plans, temporary adjustments, or other programs they offer. It can help to write down your income, expenses, and questions beforehand, and if possible take a trusted, financially wise person with you on the call to help you process what you hear and keep good notes. A nonprofit credit counselor or a financial counselor through your community can also walk through a budget with you without pressure to sell anything.

We are also praying for those who hold your loan, that they would listen carefully and respond with patience and fairness as you seek to handle what you owe responsibly.

Father, in Jesus' name we lift this need to You. Grant our friend clear wisdom for each decision and conversation ahead, provision for daily needs, and peace as You guide the next steps. Give patience and understanding to those managing the loan as well. Lead toward a path that honors You and allows for steady, honest stewardship. Amen.

Your honest cry concerning this heavy burden of debt has been heard and brought before the Lord, and we join you in seeking His gracious help.

Wisdom is man's true path, the compass by which he must steer across the trackless waste of life, and without it we are as the wild ass's colt running here and there and wasting strength which might be profitably employed. You have done well to ask for wisdom rather than merely for money, for the price of wisdom is above rubies and it shall not be valued with pure gold. Where then shall this wisdom be found. It is to be found in Christ, for Christ is the wisdom of God, and His gospel is the highest of all sciences. If you would find wisdom you must find it in the word of revelation. There the Lord has laid out the way of wisdom, and there He teaches the truly wise to walk as those who trust not in their own strength or sufficiency, but in Him who planned the way of salvation and who also orders all our earthly paths.

Therefore seek wisdom first upon your knees and then in the Scriptures, asking the Lord to show you the next faithful step. Be diligent to do what is honest and just, for the righteous desire to repay what they owe, even when ability fails. Lay your exact condition plainly before those who hold the loan, seek godly counsel concerning stewardship and provision, and labor faithfully with the hands God has given you, trusting that He who clothes the lilies will not forsake His child.

We also hear your prayer for patience, both for yourself and for those who hold the loan. You have heard of the patience of Job, which was the patience of a man like ourselves, imperfect and full of infirmity, yet tried and sustained by grace. Job could not have exhibited patience if he had not endured trial, and God permits trial because He knows that His wisdom and divine grace have made us able to bear it. As soon as we are saved we come under the discipline of Christ and a part of that discipline lies in the exercise of patience, the patience which the Scriptures inculcate, exhibit and produce. It is not the patience of one who cannot complain, but the patience of a child who believes in his Father's love, feeding upon the promises in meditation and prayer until that patience is reproduced in him.

So we pray for you, that the Lord would grant you that patient trust which waits upon Him and does not complain, and that He would also work patience and understanding in the hearts of those to whom the debt is owed.

Let us pray together. O Lord our God, there is none like You for goodness, for love, for wisdom. Your will ought to be done on earth as it is in heaven, for what You do is always best. Look upon Your servant in this strait, pressed by a debt beyond present means and by the weight of years. Grant wisdom liberally as You have promised to those who ask in faith. Direct Your child into the way of wisdom which is found in Christ, and show the right and honest path to walk in this matter. Provide for daily needs according to Your riches, open doors for honorable provision, and give grace to be faithful in little and in much. Temper the hearts of those who hold this loan with wisdom and forbearance, and give to Your servant a quiet and patient spirit to wait upon You and to do what is right. Keep from anxious unbelief and from doubting Your wisdom, and let this trial work patience and hope to Your glory. In the name of Jesus Christ our wisdom and our peace, Amen.
