You cry out for a miracle of provision, a great breakthrough in your financial need. Let us take this burden together before the throne of grace, but first, consider what a miracle truly is and from whom it must come. The objective of every miracle is to reveal the power and authority of our Lord’s words, to let us see that His teaching carries omnipotent force. The power to supply your need does not lie in your own striving or even in the strength of your faith; it lies wholly in Jesus Himself. He would have you look away from the scantiness of your own resources and fix your gaze upon His boundless fullness.
Have you not known such provision before? Consider the miracle of the loaves as it has transpired in your own life story. When have you been brought low and yet found His mercy sufficient? The disciples forgot that Christ is grand in emergencies, and so they were amazed at every fresh trial. But you, recall how He met you in past distresses, and be not afraid. That same Jesus who turned water into wine at a family gathering, who fed the multitude with a lad’s small meal, is the God of your family’s table. Commit your cause to Him now about those simple family matters that are causing you so much irritation. You have been praying; now roll the burden entirely upon Him and have faith that He will grant your request.
Do not despise the day of small things nor imagine that you require a sign more dazzling than the sunrise to strengthen your confidence. One miracle is as easy for Omnipotence as another; once His arm is bared, all difficulties cease. The God of the thundering sea is the God of your daily bread, and He has adopted you into His family. A Christian himself is a walking miracle, a mass of miracles! If He has quickened your dead soul, shall He not also feed your mortal body? Let this expectation send you to your knees with a larger hope. Yet remember that the first miracle after our Lord’s death was not done in a private house but in the Temple, so bring your need into the sanctuary of private prayer and into the assembly of the saints, trusting not in the prayer itself but in Him to whom you pray.
Let your plea be this: “Lord, Thou hast loved me into faith; continue now that miracle of love by meeting my family’s necessities, that we may see Thy hand and give Thee glory.” Let your family prayer be more earnest, your private devotions more constant, and your heart more watchful against unbelief. If He opens His hand, be sure to receive what He gives with thanksgiving; none refused the Lord’s provision by the sea, and none went away hungry. May it be so with you, and may this year be marked by such a gracious supply that you and your household shall break forth in praise, saying, “What a miracle of grace is this!”
