Filled with Joy (May 8th)

Verse

At that same time Jesus was filled with the joy of the Holy Spirit, and he said, "O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding these things from those who think themselves wise and clever, and for revealing them to the childlike. Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way."

Luke 10:21 nlt

Thought

All too frequently, we pursue the wrong things hoping that they will make us happy. Real joy, however, comes from the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. When we look in the life of Jesus and when we look at the early followers of Jesus, the presence of the Holy Spirit brought them joy. Part of this joy comes from the insight and understanding that the Holy Spirit brings. Part of this joy comes from the abiding presence of God within us. Part of this joy comes from the connection that the Holy Spirit gives us with other believers. Part of this joy comes from the assurance of our connection to the Father as his child. Ultimately, however, the joy comes because of the Spirit's presence!

Prayer

O Father, thank you for providing me with your source of joy, the Holy Spirit. In Jesus' name I thank you. Amen.
