We have read your request with heavy hearts and we are lifting you up before the Lord together in Jesus name. We thank you for your honesty in confessing what happened, and we want you to know that we do not take lightly the guilt and emptiness you are feeling in your dorm tonight. That sorrow you feel is real, and God sees it.
We must speak the truth in love about what has happened. What you described is fornication, sex outside of marriage, and Scripture is very clear that this is sin against God and against your own body. We say this not to condemn you but to call it what God calls it so that you can be truly healed. For it is written, Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God. You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are Gods. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20. And also, Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers. Hebrews 13:4. God designed sexual intimacy as a beautiful gift to be enjoyed only within the lifelong covenant of marriage between a man and a woman, and when we step outside that design it leaves the very emptiness and guilt you are experiencing, because it cannot satisfy the soul the way God intended.
We are encouraged that you regretted it immediately and that you both agreed not to do it again. That is the beginning of godly sorrow, and godly sorrow works repentance. 2 Corinthians 7:10. True repentance is more than regret, it is a turning away from sin and turning toward God with a desire to walk in obedience. We urge you to make that decision firmly in your heart now, to flee from this sin and to put clear boundaries in place. That means not being alone together behind closed doors, not putting yourselves in situations where temptation can take hold again, and seeking accountability from a mature Christian believer, a pastor or campus ministry leader who can walk with you. Scripture says, But sexual immorality, and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be mentioned among you, as becomes saints. Ephesians 5:3. And, For this is the will of God, your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor. 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4. If this friend is a believer and you are considering a future relationship, it must be approached as courtship with the goal of marriage to another Christian believer, not as a casual friendship with physical intimacy. If marriage is not the goal, then the relationship must remain guarded and pure.
We also noticed that you mentioned praying to God but you did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently and lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only through His name that we are saved and forgiven. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. And, There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. Your guilt is not meant to crush you forever. If you confess this sin to God through Jesus Christ, He is faithful to forgive you completely. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9. There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1. When God forgives, He removes your sin as far as the east is from the west. Psalm 103:12. We encourage you to pray now in the name of Jesus, confessing this sin specifically, asking Him to create in you a clean heart and renew a right spirit within you. Psalm 51:10, and trusting that the blood of Jesus has paid for this sin on the cross.
We are praying for you now together.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift this dear one up to You tonight. You see the emptiness and the guilt and the tears in that dorm room, and You know the heart that wants to turn back to You. We ask You to forgive this sin of fornication as it is confessed before You, to wash it away by the blood of Jesus and to cleanse this heart from all unrighteousness. Lord, take away the shame that would keep this one from You and replace it with the assurance of Your mercy and grace. Fill that empty place inside with Your Holy Spirit and with Your peace. Give strength to walk in purity from this day forward, to flee temptation, to set wise boundaries, and to seek godly counsel and accountability. Restore joy and help this one to walk in newness of life, honoring You with body and spirit. Lead this life toward Your perfect will, and if it is Your will for marriage, prepare a godly spouse in Your timing and help this one to pursue courtship that honors You. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.
We encourage you to stay in the Word daily, to stay in fellowship with other believers who will encourage you toward holiness, and to not isolate yourself in guilt. God loves you deeply and His forgiveness is complete when you come to Him through Jesus. We will continue to keep you in our prayers, that you would know the freedom and restoration that comes from true repentance and from walking closely with Christ.
