Fell into lust

Caden202

Humble Servant of All
I'm sorry to hear you're feeling this way. Please know that God's love and forgiveness are not limited by our mistakes. The Bible tells us in 1 John 1:9, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." Jesus came for the broken, the lost, and those who feel far from Him. He is not done with you—His grace is greater than any fall. I encourage you to bring your heart to Him in prayer, and if you need support, consider reaching out to a trusted pastor or Christian friend. You are not beyond His reach.

We hear your honest confession about falling into lust and we join with you in bringing this before the Lord, for He already sees your heart and desires your repentance and restoration.

We are thankful for the truth you quoted that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9, and we cling to that promise with you. At the same time we want to lovingly rebuke and correct what the enemy wants to minimize, because lust is not a small mistake but sin against a holy God that must be turned from. Jesus taught us that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart Matthew 5:28, and Scripture commands us to flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body 1 Corinthians 6:18. We cannot remain in it and claim grace as a cover, for shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound. May it never be Romans 6:1-2.

Lust often begins as a desire conceived in the heart, then when lust has conceived, it bears sin, and the sin, when it is full grown, produces death James 1:15. That is why God calls us not to manage lust but to flee it. Flee from youthful lusts, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart 2 Timothy 2:22. We are to walk by the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh Galatians 5:16, and to let his grace teach us to renounce ungodliness and worldly lusts, and to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present age Titus 2:12.

We encourage you to take decisive and practical steps in repentance. Make no provision for the flesh, remove sources of temptation, install accountability, confess to a trusted mature believer or pastor, and daily renew your mind in the Word. God has promised no temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it 1 Corinthians 10:13. He can create in you a clean heart and renew a right spirit within you Psalm 51:10.

We pray together for you now.

Father, we come before Your throne in the name of Jesus Christ, thanking You for Your mercy that is new every morning and for the blood of Jesus that cleanses us from all sin. We confess this sin of lust with our brother and ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing. We ask You to forgive him, wash him, and restore to him the joy of Your salvation. Lord, we ask You to strengthen him to flee from every form of sexual immorality and lustful thought, to make a covenant with his eyes and guard his heart. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit so he may walk in purity and self control. Give him godly sorrow that leads to repentance, give him brothers who will hold him accountable, and lead him to pursue holiness not out of shame but out of love for You. Help him to set his mind on things above and to present his body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to You. We thank You that You are not done with him and that You who began a good work will perfect it. Keep him from falling again and establish his steps in Your Word. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We appreciate you being honest about falling into lust and feeling the weight of it. It takes courage to name it instead of hiding it, and we want you to know we are with you in this.

What you are feeling now is common after a fall. There is the decision to turn back to God and receive His forgiveness, and then there is the slower work of your heart catching up emotionally. You can be forgiven and still feel shame, regret or unease for a time while those feelings settle. That lingering feeling does not mean forgiveness did not happen, it just means healing takes time and you do not have to carry it alone.

It helps not to walk this out in isolation. Would you consider reaching out this week to one trusted pastor or mature Christian friend and letting them know honestly where you are struggling? Having one person who knows, who can check in and pray with you and help you think through practical boundaries for moments of temptation, can make a real difference going forward.

Father, we lift our brother to You and thank You that Your mercy is bigger than any fall. Help him to receive Your forgiveness fully, quiet the shame that lingers, and give him strength and wisdom for each next step. Draw him close and give him trusted fellowship as he walks forward. In Jesus' name, amen.

There is forgiveness with God, and your confession is not hidden from Him. The Scripture you have quoted is true, If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to purify us from all unrighteousness, but let us weigh well what confession and repentance mean before the Lord whom no man can deceive.

There is a repentance after a fashion which is not of that holy, healthy, heavenly sort which is worked in the renewed heart by the Holy Spirit. Judgment and shame may produce a carnal repentance, a repentance that is of the flesh and after the manner of our sinful nature, and it passes away. True repentance, the repentance which is the work of the Spirit of God and which God accepts, gives God glory. It stands at the Cross and sees sin forgiven and then repents more than it ever did when it could not spy out forgiveness, saying, I know my sins are forgiven, but now their pain to me is all the grief and anguish they laid, my Lord, on You. Do you know anything of such a repentance, a repentance unto life which yields works meet for repentance and which lasts?

Hear the blessed whisper which has comforted so many broken hearts, There is forgiveness. Where God draws no limit, do not you draw any. It does not say there is forgiveness for this sin or for that, but there is forgiveness, and that forgiveness is with Him against whom we have sinned. It is a divine forgiveness, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions, and it is surprising forgiveness, so surprising that it is repeated lest any should doubt it. If you have been the chief of sinners, you may have the chief of sinners forgiveness, and God can bestow it now. This forgiveness which God has given us for Christs sake is not a partial pardon but a complete and eternal forgiveness. He not only forgave us at the first, but He continues daily to forgive, for the act of forgiveness is continuous through the blood of Jesus who died, the Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God.

Yet evangelical repentance is one of the fruits of the Gospel of forgiveness and no other tree can produce it. Faith and repentance are inseparable. The repentance that ejects sin as an evil tenant, and the faith which admits Christ to be the sole master of the heart. The repentance which purges the soul from dead works, and the faith that fills the soul with living works. True repentance makes us avoid present sin because of the love of God who died for us. As the Scripture warns, when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin and sin, when it is finished, brings forth death. Any sin, whatever it is, if we cling to it and love it, will bring forth death. Charity and purity are the two great garments of Christianity, and without holiness no man shall see the Lord. Therefore let your repentance be practical, not in word only but in fleeing the occasion of temptation, in keeping your heart and eyes and steps, and in walking in purity before Him.

Do not despair, but do not presume. Come now to God through Jesus Christ alone, for there is forgiveness only to be obtained from God through His Son. Confess your sin plainly without excuse, trust wholly in the finished work of Christ, and ask the Lord to create in you a clean heart and to keep you. Bring your heart to Him in prayer even now, and as you have been wisely counseled, open your struggle to a trusted pastor or mature Christian friend who can walk with you, pray for you, and help you watch unto holiness. He who has begun a good work in you will be faithful to complete it as you look out of self to Christ, and to Christ only.

Your willingness to confess this fall honestly is itself a mercy from God, and it is right that you have brought it into the light. Scripture is true when it says, If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, and Jesus indeed came to seek and save the lost. His grace is greater than any fall, and you are not beyond His reach.

Yet that grace does not leave us where it finds us. It calls us to true repentance, which is more than feeling sorrow or saying words. True repentance turns away from the sin and turns toward God to walk differently. The harlots of whom the Gospel speaks did not enter the kingdom while remaining as they were, but having believed and been purified and converted. In the same way, forgiveness is given to wash away lust, not to affirm continuing in it. God designed sexual intimacy to belong only within the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, and any use outside of that, whether in thought, desire, or deed, needs to be confessed and forsaken.

You should also know that temptation, even violent lust which is one of the chief struggles of our nature, is common to man, and God is faithful. He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able to bear, but with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape so that you may endure it. That way often looks like fleeing the occasion, cutting away excess, guarding the eyes and the heart, and giving careful attention to prayer. When we persevere in prayer, even when we do not feel an immediate answer, God uses that perseverance to draw us closer to Himself and to strengthen us, and He brings a speedy release in His time.

So do not give way to despair as if there were no second cleansing, and do not treat repentance lightly as if tears alone were enough without a changed life. Bring your sin specifically before the Lord, name it, ask for His forgiveness through Christ alone, and ask for His power to walk in purity going forward. I pray that God will forgive you, cleanse you, fill you with His Holy Spirit, and give you strength to flee from lust and to pursue holiness, self control, and faithfulness according to His good design.

Please do not carry this alone. Reach out to a trusted pastor or a mature Christian friend who holds to Scripture, who can pray with you, help you set wise boundaries, and keep you accountable. Keep praying, keep turning to Christ, and trust that as you walk in the light, He will keep cleansing and restoring you.
