Fear anxiety arising in a hostile work environment

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I work at a very hostile work environment where I feel everyone is coming to get me, I have units ### for the contact I have signed please pray for peace and protection over my work, I don’t feel safe at work, with children being violent and defiant not being safe.

We understand the deep distress you must be feeling in such a hostile and unsafe work environment, and we want to lift you up in prayer while also grounding you in God’s truth. The fear and anxiety you’re experiencing are real, but we serve a God who is greater than any circumstance, and He calls us to cast all our anxieties on Him because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7). The workplace you’ve described sounds not only emotionally taxing but physically dangerous, especially with the mention of violent and defiant children. This is not how God intends for His children to live—constantly under threat or in fear. While we pray for your protection and peace, we also urge you to seek wisdom about whether this environment is where God wants you to remain long-term. Scripture reminds us that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7). If this job is causing you to live in a state of constant fear, it may be time to prayerfully consider whether this is the place God has for you, or if He is leading you to something else where you can serve without such oppression.

We also notice that your request did not invoke the name of Jesus, and we want to gently but firmly remind you that there is no other name under heaven by which we are saved or through which we can approach the Father (Acts 4:12, John 14:6). It is only through faith in Jesus Christ that we have access to God’s throne of grace, where we can find mercy and help in our time of need (Hebrews 4:16). If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus as your Lord and Savior, we urge you to do so today. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9). Without Him, our prayers are empty, but in Him, we have authority over fear, protection from the enemy, and the promise of His presence no matter what we face.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up our brother/sister who is suffering under the weight of fear and anxiety in a hostile work environment. Lord, You see the dangers they face—both the emotional toll and the physical threats. We ask that You surround them with Your divine protection, as it is written in Psalm 91:11, “For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways.” Father, we rebuke the spirit of fear that has taken hold, and we declare that You have not given them a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. Fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, guarding their heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).

Lord, we also ask for Your wisdom to flood their heart. If this job is not Your will for them, open doors for them to leave and provide another position where they can work in safety and with dignity. If You are calling them to remain for a season, grant them supernatural strength, patience, and discernment to navigate this environment without being crushed by it. Give them favor with those in authority, that they might see the injustice and take action to protect not only our brother/sister but others who may be suffering in silence.

We pray for the children in this environment as well, Lord. Their violence and defiance are signs of deep brokenness, and we ask that You would intervene in their lives. Soften their hearts and bring godly influences into their paths to show them Your love. Break the cycles of anger and rebellion, and let Your light shine in that dark place.

Father, we also lift up any financial concerns that may be tying our brother/sister to this job. You are Jehovah Jireh, the God who provides. We trust You to meet their every need according to Your riches in glory (Philippians 4:19). Give them the faith to step out in obedience if You call them to, knowing that You will never leave them nor forsake them (Deuteronomy 31:6).

Finally, Lord, we pray that this trial would draw them closer to You. Let them feel Your presence in a tangible way, and use this season to strengthen their faith. Remind them that their identity is not in their job or the opinions of others, but in You alone. May they find rest in Your promises and courage in Your truth.

We ask all these things in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

We encourage you to spend time in God’s Word daily, meditating on His promises of protection and provision. Psalm 23 is a wonderful place to start, reminding you that even when you walk through the valley of the shadow of death, you need not fear, for He is with you. Additionally, we urge you to seek godly counsel—whether from a pastor, a trusted believer, or a Christian counselor—who can help you process this situation and discern God’s will. You do not have to walk this path alone. The body of Christ is here to support you, and we are standing with you in prayer.

If you are not already part of a local church, we strongly encourage you to find one where you can be nourished spiritually and surrounded by believers who can uplift you. Isolation only magnifies fear, but community brings strength. Lastly, if the violence or hostility at your workplace is illegal or puts you in immediate danger, do not hesitate to report it to the appropriate authorities or seek legal counsel. God calls us to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves (Matthew 10:16), and sometimes that means taking practical steps to protect the life He has given you.

Stay steadfast in prayer, and keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith (Hebrews 12:2). He is your refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). Trust in Him, and He will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6).

We're here with you, friend. It's tough feeling unsafe at work, especially with the added stress of violent and defiant children. We understand the fear and anxiety you're experiencing, but remember, God is always with you. He's promised to never leave nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6).

Let's claim God's promise of peace together. "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." (John 14:27) Let's meditate on this verse and trust that His peace, which surpasses all understanding, will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).

We also want to encourage you to keep your focus on Jesus. He's the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2). Trust in Him, and He'll make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Father, please meet deepest spiritual, physical, emotional, financial needs according to Your Will and timing in Jesus Name Amen

Be a Prayer Warrior: “Praying for others”

We want to thank you for allowing us the honor of lifting you up in prayer during this difficult season in your workplace. It has been on our hearts to continue interceding for you, asking the Lord to surround you with His peace that surpasses all understanding and to be your shield and strong tower in the midst of this hostile environment. We know how heavy the burden must feel when you step into a place each day where fear and anxiety threaten to overwhelm you, especially when the safety of both you and the children is at risk. You are not forgotten, and we believe the Lord sees your faithfulness in showing up despite the challenges.

We are earnestly praying that God would go before you each day, softening hearts and bringing supernatural protection over your interactions with both colleagues and the children in your care. May He give you wisdom beyond your own to navigate each situation with grace and authority, and may His presence be so tangible that fear has no place in your mind or spirit. We also ask that He would provide you with divine connections—whether through supportive coworkers, supervisors, or even unexpected allies—to remind you that you are not alone in this battle.

If the Lord has already begun to shift the atmosphere around you or granted you a sense of His peace and protection, we would love to rejoice with you in a praise report. Even small victories are worth celebrating, as they testify to His faithfulness. If the hostility and fear still feel just as heavy, please don’t hesitate to share an update or repost your request so we can continue to stand with you in agreement. Sometimes the battle lasts longer than we hope, but we serve a God who is never late and never fails.

May you be strengthened today by the knowledge that He who is in you is greater than any hostility or chaos around you. Lean into Him, even in the moments when it feels impossible, and trust that He is working behind the scenes on your behalf. We are here with you, lifting you up in Jesus’ name.
