We come before the throne of grace with hearts aligned to the Lord’s perfect will, echoing the prayer our Savior taught us. You’ve rightly lifted up the pattern of seeking God’s kingdom and glory first, just as Matthew 6:33 instructs: "But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well." This is the foundation of every true prayer, acknowledging that our Father in heaven is sovereign, holy, and worthy of all honor.

The Lord’s Prayer is a beautiful model, reminding us to prioritize His name, His kingdom, and His will above all else. It also humbles us to depend on Him for daily provision, forgiveness, and protection from evil. We join you in declaring that His kingdom, power, and glory endure forever, and we thank Him for the privilege of approaching His throne through the name of Jesus Christ, the only mediator between God and man (1 Timothy 2:5).

Yet we must also examine our hearts as we pray this prayer. When we say, "Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors," do we truly extend the same grace we receive? Jesus warns in Matthew 6:14-15: "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don’t forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." Unforgiveness is a heavy chain that hinders our relationship with God and others. If there is bitterness or resentment in your heart, we encourage you to release it to the Lord, trusting Him to heal and restore.

We also lift up the need for provision, protection, and right relationships with God and others. The Lord promises to supply all our needs according to His riches in glory (Philippians 4:19), but we must ensure our requests align with His will. Are we stewarding what He’s already given us faithfully? Are we walking in obedience to His commands? James 4:3 reminds us, "You ask, and don’t receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures." Let us seek His will above our own desires.

For relationships, we must guard our hearts and honor God’s design. Marriage is a sacred covenant between one man and one woman, reflecting Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33). Any relationship outside of this design, whether through fornication, adultery, or same-sex unions, is contrary to Scripture and grieves the Holy Spirit. If you are in a relationship that does not honor God, we urge you to repent and seek His guidance for restoration or separation. The Lord’s grace is sufficient to lead you into holiness.

Finally, we must emphasize that prayer is only effective when offered in the name of Jesus Christ. There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not surrendered your life to Him, we invite you to do so today. Confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection, and receive Him as Lord and Savior. Romans 10:9 declares, "If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, giving You all honor and glory. Your kingdom is eternal, and Your will is perfect. We ask that You align our hearts with Yours, that we may seek You above all else. Provide for our needs, Lord, and teach us to trust You fully. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who have wronged us. Deliver us from temptation and evil, and strengthen us to walk in Your ways.

Father, we lift up our relationships to You. Where there is brokenness, bring healing. Where there is sin, grant repentance. Where there is confusion, provide clarity. Help us to honor You in all our interactions, especially in marriage and courtship. May our lives reflect Your love and holiness.

It is well that you place the Father’s glory and kingdom first, for this is the true order of prayer. Our daily bread, our debts, our temptations, all these are secondary to the hallowing of His name and the coming of His kingdom. Yet remember, the same Father who reigns in glory stoops to number the hairs of your head. When you cry for deliverance from evil, know this: deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from its guilt. Where we look for justification, there must we also look for sanctification. Has He translated you into the kingdom of His dear Son? Then He will certainly help you in your daily troubles. Did He give His own Son to put away your sin, and will He not give you bread and water?

The deliverance you seek from evil is a ransom already found. None but God would have thought of such a way, that the King’s own Son should bear the penalty of all your iniquities. This is a gift of Divine Love. And if you are His child, when you are brought into peril and trouble, you shall hear His commandment to save you, saved from yourself, from the attacks of old sins, from the devil. That deliverance is an eternal one, nor shall the infernal lion ever rend one sheep that the Great Shepherd deigns to keep.

Yet remember, the Lord chastens those He loves. Troubles do not spring from the dust; the Lord Himself kindles the furnace and sits as Refiner. But this is a gladsome fact, that which comes from the rod of a Father is profitable. It lies within the fence of Omnipotent overruling, and if your faith keeps hold upon His fatherly compassion, you possess an effectual comfort. The sharpest smart is swallowed up in the assurance of sins forgiven and security from punishment.

This forgiveness is complete. Let none suppose He will twice exact the penalty of one sin. When God forgives, He does not leave the soul to draw licentious inferences from His mercy. No, wherever forgiveness comes, there comes a turning from sin, a fresh view of its evil, a heart that now seeks God’s pleasure. You know the pain of banishment; you have been under a terrible sense of guilt. That very sense is a safeguard, teaching you that sin is an evil and a bitter thing. But if you have learned your own helplessness, then rejoice, for deliverance from sin is solely by the power of God. It is not of him that wills, but of God that shows mercy.

Now, after afflictions and deliverance, what is the conduct of a believer? “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.” Go to the wells cleared from the foe. Draw the waters of comfort from the fountain opened for sin and uncleanness. Recollect your peaceful privileges, screened from the noise of archers, from the plague of sin. And then go forth to make known His mighty acts, the glorious majesty of His kingdom. Your life, forgiven and sustained, is to be a stanza of deliverance, a Hallelujah to the God who brought you out of the house of bondage.

So pray as He taught you, with boldness yet with lowliness. Set His kingdom first. Trust Him for daily bread. Hold fast to forgiveness, and as you forgive others, so taste its sweetness afresh. Look to Him for keeping, for He alone can lead you not into temptation but deliver you from the Evil One. And let this be your seal: “For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.” In all this, give thanks in Jesus’ name, for no other name is given among men whereby we must be saved.

When you structure your prayer to place God’s glory and Kingdom first, you do well. This is the very order our Lord gave us. For He commands us to say “Our Father” not as a mere form, but as those who have been suddenly enlightened, counted worthy of adoption, and granted an inheritance of a Kingdom so far beyond our merit that it silences all boasting. You who were sitting in darkness and at enmity now call upon God as Father. Let that privilege govern every petition that follows. You pray rightly when the soul, amazed at such love, places His honor and His will above every earthly care.

In asking for daily bread, you must carefully consider what you request. To make provision for the flesh is not forbidden, but to make provision to fulfill its lusts is death. Use a little wine for your stomach’s sake. Seek health, not the lighting up of the flame of wantonness. When you pray for provision, let your industry be spent on spiritual things, so that you do not weigh yourself down with dreams that will flee with the day. The soft and relaxed life, the pride in dress, the excess of the glutton, these are not needs but kindlings of desire. God grants us the comfort of necessary things so that we might be above them, not enslaved to them.

Concerning the forgiveness of debts, you must understand that you are asking God to deal with you precisely as you deal with your neighbor. You come seeking mercy for numberless offenses, and even before that mercy is given, He trains you in gentleness by requiring you to forgive. What can you say? That you have wrongfully endured some ill? Only these are truly trespasses. If you forgive them, a great reward is laid up for you, even to be called to account for none of your own offenses. But if you harbor malice, you sharpen the sword against yourself. You ask for the comfort of the mourner, yet God declares the mourner blessed not because of the value of the mourning, but out of His own vast love for man. If you mourn for misdoings and forgive your debtors, He does not limit His recompense to removing punishment; He makes you blessed and imparts abundant consolation both here and in the life to come.

As for your reference to first John, guard yourself lest any misuse of Scripture lead you to make a false provision for the flesh. The blessedness of David speaks of sins forgiven and covered, not of license. If any relationship or situation runs against the holy ordinance that marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, it cannot be brought before God for blessing. You do not ask a physician to bless a fever. Mourn for such things; do not ask God to honor them. The fire that is kindled against His will brings not comfort but vengeance.

Finally, when you plead for deliverance from evil, know that He does not always promise deliverance from death itself. He grants something greater: the power to despise death and to see through the fleeting nature of all present dangers. A short sentence fixes in the mind the immortality of the soul. Since He has shed His Spirit into our hearts and promised an inheritance incorruptible, you can stand above the trials that swarm like snowflakes. Entrust yourself to His keeping, and make no truce with the evil of this age, for the present life is a sleep, and its dreams end in either perdition or a Kingdom. Your prayer ends in truth: His is the Kingdom and the power and the glory. Live and pray in a manner worthy of that Kingdom.

You have set your heart on the very order Jesus gave us. To begin with the Father’s glory and His kingdom is to put everything else in its right place. When you seek first the kingdom and His righteousness, the other needs, provision, relationship, protection, no longer sit as anxious masters over you. They fall into the care of the One who already knows what you need.

Praying “Your kingdom come” is no small request. It asks God to break in where the kingdom of darkness still holds ground, to bring deliverance where rebellion has left its mark. It is the cry for His rule to be known in your own heart and in the world around you, for what is true in heaven to become manifest on earth. That means every part of your life, your daily bread, your relationships, your hidden struggles, gets drawn into that kingdom reality.

So when you ask for daily bread, you are not pleading with a reluctant provider. You are learning to depend on the King who nourishes His people. And when you face the call to forgive, you are not left to manufacture a feeling. The forgiveness we receive from the Father creates a new heart, one that can release others from their debts. If bitterness lingers, the prayer itself becomes a place to ask, “Lord, give me the spirit of forgiveness that I lack.” He will answer.

The plea “lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil” recognizes the battle. Temptation is not sin; it is the moment of choice. Will I walk after the flesh, taking the shortcut, or will I trust the path of the Spirit? Every test presses that decision. And while God does not solicit anyone to evil, He does allow our faith to be tested so that endurance may grow. The real danger lies not in being tempted but in yielding, in letting desire conceive and give birth to sin. That is why you cry out for deliverance, knowing that the same King who walked through the wilderness without yielding is able to keep you from falling.

Remember that the kingdom you are praying toward is an everlasting kingdom. Every earthly power that rises in pride will be brought low, but the saints of the Most High will possess the kingdom forever. The world’s treasures and riches can choke out trust; they make entering the kingdom seem impossible in human terms. Yet what is impossible with man is possible with God. He humbles the proud and gives grace to the childlike. The pathway to greatness in this kingdom is always the way of humility and a heart that forgives from the inside out.

So let this prayer shape you. You have already discovered the treasure hidden in the field, the kingdom of heaven itself. That joy will enable you to let go of whatever competes for first place. As you honor the Father’s name and long for His will to be done, you are standing in the very truth Jesus unveiled to His followers. You are a child of the kingdom, planted in the world for His purpose, and your daily needs are safe in the care of the King whose dominion endures from generation to generation.
