Humble Servant of All
Please pray for me about this: my father is extremely demonized which causes severe emotional and behavioral problems. He thinks he is a Christian but is confused when it comes to religion. He was raised being exposed to things like Catholicism and likely other things such as voodoo. He has become extremely combative recently when it comes to going to church and won't come with me and my mom at all. Today when we got home from church, he was acting weird with us. I had just spoken with him on the phone a few minutes before we got home to tell him we'd gotten out of church and were going to the store and he was fine then. I have no idea what caused his behavior to switch by the time we got home but it, in addition to some other things, basically ruined my entire Sunday. During times like these, I don't like to be around him and I just want to separate myself from him for my own protection. I really don't want to be around him right now. He seemed to be coming around back to being normal a few hours after we got home but now he's being weird again.

We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up your father and your family in this deeply troubling situation. The spiritual warfare you are describing is real, and we stand with you in the authority of Jesus Christ to break every chain of darkness that seeks to torment your household. The Word of God declares in Ephesians 6:12, "For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places." This is not merely a battle of emotions or behavior—it is a spiritual assault, and we must respond with the weapons of our warfare, which are not carnal but mighty before God to the pulling down of strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4).

First, we must address the state of your father’s soul. You mentioned he thinks he is a Christian but is confused when it comes to religion. The Bible is clear that true faith in Jesus Christ is not merely about religious affiliation or inherited traditions but about a personal, saving relationship with Him. Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." If your father’s faith is rooted in anything other than the finished work of Christ on the cross—whether it be Catholicism, voodoo, or any other tradition—he is being deceived. The enemy thrives in confusion, and we must pray that the Holy Spirit would bring clarity to his heart, revealing the truth of the Gospel in a way he cannot deny.

The influence of voodoo and other occult practices is particularly dangerous, as these open doors to demonic oppression. Scripture warns us in Deuteronomy 18:10-12, "There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices sorcery, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer, or a charmer, or a consulter with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh." If your father was exposed to these practices, even unknowingly, they have left spiritual wounds that must be addressed through repentance and the blood of Jesus. We rebuke every spirit of confusion, deception, and torment that has taken hold of him, and we command them to flee in the name of Jesus Christ. The blood of Jesus is more than sufficient to cleanse him from every ungodly tie and to break every curse (Revelation 12:11).

Your father’s combative behavior, especially regarding church, is a clear sign of spiritual resistance. The enemy does not want him to draw near to God, for he knows that in the presence of the Lord, there is freedom (Psalm 16:11). His sudden shift in behavior after your call is no coincidence—it is a tactic of the enemy to disrupt peace and sow division. We must not underestimate the schemes of the devil, but we also must not fear them, for "greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world" (1 John 4:4). We declare that every assignment of the enemy against your family is dismantled now in Jesus’ name. We speak peace over your home, and we command every spirit of strife, anger, and division to leave and never return.

Your desire to separate yourself from him for protection is understandable, but we must also encourage you to walk in love and wisdom. Jesus calls us to love even our enemies (Matthew 5:44), and while that does not mean subjecting yourself to abuse, it does mean extending grace and praying for those who persecute you. Proverbs 22:24-25 warns, "Don’t make friends with a hot-tempered man, and don’t associate with one who harbors anger: lest you learn his ways, and ensnare your soul." There is wisdom in setting boundaries, but we must also guard our hearts against bitterness or resentment. Pray for your father, but also pray for your own heart to remain soft and full of compassion toward him.

We also lift up your mother in this situation. It is likely that she is bearing a heavy burden as well, and she needs strength and wisdom to navigate this season. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 reminds us, "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up." Your family must stand together in prayer and unity, even in the midst of this spiritual battle. Do not allow the enemy to isolate any of you—he thrives in division, but God brings unity and strength.

Now, we pray with authority and faith:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the Name that is above every name, the Name at which every knee must bow. We thank You that Your Word declares that whatever we bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever we loose on earth will be loosed in heaven (Matthew 18:18). Today, we bind every spirit of confusion, deception, torment, anger, and division that has taken hold of this family. We loose the peace of God, the clarity of the Holy Spirit, and the freedom that comes through the blood of Jesus. We break every curse, every ungodly tie, and every generational stronghold that has been passed down through occult practices or false religions. We declare that the blood of Jesus cleanses this family from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:7).

Lord, we specifically pray for this father. We ask that You would open his eyes to the truth of the Gospel. Remove the scales of deception from his eyes, and let him see Jesus as He truly is—the Way, the Truth, and the Life. We pray that he would have a personal encounter with You, Lord, that leaves no room for doubt. If he has never truly surrendered his life to Jesus, we ask that You would draw him with cords of love and convict him of his need for a Savior. If he is a believer but has been deceived, we ask that You would restore him to a right relationship with You. We rebuke every spirit that is speaking lies to him, and we command them to be silent in Jesus’ name. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit, Lord, and let him walk in the freedom that only You can provide.

We pray for protection over this family. Surround them with Your angels, Lord, and let Your presence be a shield around them. Protect their minds from fear, their hearts from bitterness, and their spirits from discouragement. Give them wisdom to know how to respond to this situation, and grant them the strength to stand firm in faith. We declare that no weapon formed against them will prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and that every assignment of the enemy is dismantled now.

Father, we also lift up this young person who has reached out to us. Strengthen them in their faith, and fill them with Your peace. Help them to love their father even in the midst of this battle, and give them the discernment to know when to engage and when to step back. Let them be a light in their home, a testimony of Your grace and power. We pray that they would grow in their relationship with You, and that they would stand firm on the truth of Your Word.

Finally, Lord, we ask that You would bring healing to this family. Heal the wounds of the past, the hurts of the present, and the fears of the future. Restore what the enemy has stolen, and let Your glory be revealed in their lives. We thank You for the victory that is already ours in Christ Jesus, and we declare that this family will walk in that victory. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to continue standing in faith, even when the situation seems overwhelming. The enemy wants you to feel powerless, but you are not. You have the authority of Jesus Christ, and you have the power of the Holy Spirit dwelling within you. Keep praying, keep declaring the Word of God over your father and your family, and do not grow weary in doing good (Galatians 6:9). The battle belongs to the Lord, and He will fight for you.

We also encourage you to seek godly counsel and support from your church community. Do not try to carry this burden alone—there is strength in numbers, and the enemy is less likely to prevail when believers stand together in unity. If possible, invite trusted believers to pray with you and your family, and consider speaking with your pastor or a spiritually mature leader about this situation. The Bible tells us in James 5:16, "Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective."

Lastly, we want to gently address the importance of ensuring that your own faith is firmly rooted in Jesus Christ. It is only through a personal relationship with Him that you have access to the Father and the power to overcome the schemes of the enemy. If you have never surrendered your life to Jesus, or if you are unsure, we encourage you to do so today. Romans 10:9 says, "If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Salvation is not about religion or tradition—it is about a heart transformation that comes through faith in Jesus Christ alone. If you would like to pray to receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior, we would be honored to lead you in that prayer.

We stand with you, and we believe that God is going to move mightily in this situation. Keep your eyes on Jesus, and do not be discouraged. The battle is already won!

Dear friend, we're here with you, lifting your father and your family up in prayer. We're not surprised by the spiritual warfare you're facing, but we're confident in the authority we have in Jesus Christ to break every chain that's trying to torment your household.

Your father's confusion about his faith is a common tactic of the enemy. He wants to keep people in doubt and uncertainty, but we know the truth sets us free (John 8:32). Let's pray that the Holy Spirit would reveal the truth of the Gospel to your father in a way he can't deny. We also need to address the influence of voodoo and other occult practices that can open doors to demonic oppression.
