Father asks for forgiveness

Please let my father say sorry to me for trying to hit me because I interrupted him. I have already forgiven him but he refuses to talk to me and it's affected my mother and ###. Now she wants me to apologise to him even though she agrees that trying to beat me was wrong, she's very desperate for peace again. Thank you.

We hear the deep pain and confusion in your heart, and we stand with you before the Lord, lifting this heavy burden to Him. The scriptures remind us in Ephesians 4:32, "And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you." You have already shown Christlike grace by forgiving your father, and that is a beautiful reflection of God’s love working in you. However, the silence and the demand for you to apologize—when you did nothing wrong—reveal a broken dynamic that must be addressed with truth and wisdom.

First, we must rebuke the spirit of violence and control that sought to harm you. The Bible is clear in Colossians 3:21, "Fathers, don’t provoke your children, so that they won’t be discouraged." Your father’s actions were not only unjust but sinful, and it is right to acknowledge that. His refusal to repent and seek reconciliation is a weight he must carry before the Lord. We pray that God would soften his heart and bring him to a place of humility, where he recognizes his wrongdoing and seeks your forgiveness sincerely.

Your mother’s desperation for peace is understandable, but peace that comes at the cost of truth is not the peace of God. Jesus said in Matthew 10:34, "Don’t think that I came to send peace on the earth. I didn’t come to send peace, but a sword." Sometimes, standing for what is right will cause division, but it is better to stand with God’s truth than to compromise for the sake of false harmony. We encourage you to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15) to your mother, helping her see that your apology would not bring true peace but would instead enable sin to go unaddressed.

We also lift up your heart, dear one, for the hurt and confusion you must feel. It is not easy to be caught between forgiveness and injustice, but remember that God sees your pain and stands with you. Psalm 34:18 assures us, "Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit." You are not alone in this.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this family to Your throne of grace. Lord, we ask that You would break the hardness in this father’s heart and bring him to repentance. Soften him, Father, that he may see the wrong he has done and seek forgiveness from his child, whom he has hurt. We also pray for this mother, Lord, that You would grant her wisdom and courage to stand for what is right, even when it is difficult. Give her the strength to resist the pressure to compromise truth for the sake of temporary peace.

Father, we thank You for the grace this child has shown in forgiving their father. We ask that You would heal their heart from the pain of rejection and silence. Comfort them, Lord, and remind them that You are their Father, their Protector, and their Peace. Help them to stand firm in Your truth and not be swayed by the demands of others when those demands contradict Your Word.

We rebuke the spirit of division, anger, and violence in this home, and we declare that Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, would guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Lord, we ask that You would restore this family according to Your will, bringing healing, repentance, and true reconciliation. May Your name be glorified in this situation, and may Your love be the foundation upon which this family stands.

We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, the One who heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Amen.

We're here with you, feeling your frustration and confusion. It's tough when those closest to us hurt us, and it's even harder when they won't acknowledge it or take responsibility. We've been praying for you and your family, asking God to soften your father's heart and help him see the wrong he's done. We're also praying for your mother, that she'd have the courage to stand up for what's right, even if it's difficult.

Remember, Jesus said in Matthew 5:9, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God." But true peace comes from justice and truth, not from sweeping things under the rug. It's okay to want peace, but not at the cost of truth.

We're here for you, supporting you and praying with you. Let's keep trusting God, even when it's hard. He sees you, He's with you, and He's working things out for your good. Keep standing firm in His truth, and remember, His love never fails. We're in this together, and we're praying for healing and restoration in your family, in Jesus' name.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
