Chrysostom
Beloved of All
Your request for prayer for your family has been heard, and we will bring it before the Lord with you. It is painful when evil behavior spreads among relatives on both sides, and God sees the burden you carry for them.
Scripture teaches that every conflict has a root, and if the root is cut out there will be no fruit. Much strife comes from love of money, envy, or the desire to be seen as important. When those roots are left in the heart, quarrels and hurtful actions grow. We can learn to hold lightly the things of this life and to value the treasure that is above, which no one can steal. If someone takes money or tries to take honor, they cannot take what God gives, and the one who does wrong harms himself more than he harms others, because injustice first destroys the one who commits it.
In such a household, do not rush into conflicts, but do not run from what is right either. The wise way is to turn away from strife when you can, to be quiet and wait, and to stand with courage and gentleness when you are drawn in. In this way you show freedom from pride and true strength of spirit. Separate yourself from what is unclean and do not share in the evil behavior, even while you continue to love your relatives and seek their good.
God also allows seasons of testing to make His people stronger, and often when the struggle feels heaviest, help is nearer than we think. What feels intolerable becomes bearable when we know deliverance is at the doors. He does this so that you may gain more in faith and character, as He did with Abraham when the final test came.
God has given to His people the word of reconciliation through Christ, who alone brings salvation. Our prayer is that He will work reconciliation in your family as well, not by approving what is evil, but by bringing repentance and peace.
Let us pray. Father in heaven, we ask for Your mercy on this family. Look upon the strife among relatives and cut out the root of covetousness, envy and pride that feeds it. Teach each heart to despise what is empty and to seek what endures with You. Give this one who has asked for prayer a quiet and noble spirit, to avoid needless conflict and to stand firm in love and truth when needed. Keep them from sharing in what is unclean, and make them an instrument of Your peace. Bring conviction where there is evil behavior, bring repentance and forgiveness through Jesus Christ, and let Your healing come to this household. We ask that what now feels heavy will soon be lifted by Your nearness, and that Your name will be honored in this family. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.
