Your prayer for unity and love in your family is exactly what God desires for His people, and it is beautiful that you want your home to reflect His love.
Scripture teaches that true love comes from God Himself. To know God is to know love, because God is love. The evidence that His Spirit is at work in us is that we begin to love one another with more than natural affection. There are different kinds of love that people experience. One is physical and self seeking, looking for what it can get. Another is the natural affection we have for family and friends, which is often based on response, we love those who love us in return. But the love God pours into our hearts is different. It is a giving, selfless, divine love. It does not ask what it can receive but what it can give, just as God so loved the world that He gave His Son.
That is why your request to forgive as you have been forgiven and to walk in humility, patience and kindness is so important. Jesus gave us the measure for both love and forgiveness. He said to love one another as He has loved us, and to forgive as God in Christ has forgiven us. When we remember how much we have been forgiven, how freely and fully God has shown us mercy through Jesus, we find the strength to extend that same grace to one another in the family. Love and forgiveness go together, and Christ is our example in both.
We love because He first loved us. His love for us was not caused by anything good in us and it cannot be earned or bought. It flows freely to us, and it is unquenchable. As we receive that love and abide in it, God dwells in us and His love is made complete in us. A family that dwells in that kind of love is bound together not by mere effort but by His presence.
This love is also patient and kind. It suffers long, it is not self centered, it seeks the good of the other person. That is the love that builds unity. It is shown in actions, in giving of ourselves for one another, as Christ gave Himself for us. Humility, patience and kindness are not just nice ideas, they are the fruit of His Spirit working in us as we walk in love.

Father, thank You for Your great love poured out to us through Jesus Christ. Thank You for forgiving us so completely. I ask You to fill this family with that same divine love. Help each one to know more deeply how much You love them, so that love will flow from them to one another. Teach them to forgive as You have forgiven them, to walk in humility and patience, to be kind and tenderhearted to one another. Let Your presence dwell in their home and make Your love complete among them. Strengthen their faith and draw them closer to You and to each other. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
