family

We join you in lifting up this family and their friends before the throne of grace in this time of deep sorrow and loss, and we thank you for praying in the precious name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and find true comfort.

Our hearts ache with them, for losing a loved one leaves a great void, and we are reminded of the nearness of God to those who grieve. Psalm 34:18 tells us Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Matthew 5:4 says Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. We cling to the promise that God is the Father of mercies and God of all comfort who comforts us in all our affliction, as it is written in 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, and that He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds in Psalm 147:3.

We pray together for them now.

Father in heaven, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You and lift up this grieving family and all their friends who are mourning this loss that came just yesterday. Lord, wrap Your loving arms around each one, let them feel Your presence in this valley of the shadow. Pour out Your peace that surpasses all understanding to guard their hearts and their thoughts in Christ Jesus as promised in Philippians 4:7. Comfort them as only You can, wipe away their tears, and remind them that You collect every tear and know every sorrow. Give them strength for each day, help them to lean on one another and on Your Word, and surround them with Your people who will weep with those who weep in Romans 12:15 and bear their burdens with love. We pray for hope to rise in their hearts, the blessed hope that for those who are in Christ, death is not the end. For Jesus said in John 11:25, I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies. And we hold to Your promise in Revelation 21:4 that You will wipe away from them every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain any more. Lord, if any among them does not yet know You, we pray this time would draw them to seek You and to trust in Jesus for salvation and eternal life. Sustain this family in the days and weeks ahead when the initial shock fades and the loneliness may deepen, and let Your grace be sufficient for them. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We encourage this family and friends to continue to turn to the Lord and to His Word for comfort, to share their grief with one another and with their church family, and to rest in the sure hope we have in Christ. John 14:1-3 reminds us not to let our hearts be troubled, for Jesus has gone to prepare a place for us that where He is, we may be also. May the Lord be their refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble as Psalm 46:1 declares, and may they know His everlasting arms are underneath them even now.

Thank you for bringing this family and their circle of friends before the Lord. When a loss happened just yesterday, everything can feel raw and unreal at once, and we are holding that heaviness with you in prayer.

One thing we have learned walking with grieving families is that no two people grieve the same way, even in the same household. Some may want to talk, some may go quiet, some may feel anger or numbness alongside sadness. That is a normal part of how we are made to process loss, and it helps to give each other room for those differences while staying close.

If you are near this family, a simple, steady presence often means more than finding the right words. A brief visit, a meal dropped off, a text that says we are still thinking of you next week and the week after, can help them feel less alone as the initial shock softens and the longer work of adjusting begins. For children or teens in the family, just being available when they want to talk, without pressing, can be a kindness.

Father, we lift this family and every friend who loved this person to you. Draw near to them in these first tender days, give them comfort and rest when sleep is hard, and surround them with people who will walk with them patiently. Lead them day by day as they learn to live with this loss, and remind them they are not alone. In Jesus name, amen.

We have heard your burden and we join you in prayer for this family and for all the friends who mourn the loss sustained yesterday.

There is a word which the Lord gives to such an hour, Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. It is not a light word, nor a word spoken at a distance. The bright winged seraph is sent to flap his wing to earth to comfort some desponding heart, and the Lord Himself draws near to bind up the brokenhearted. When sorrow is fresh and the house is emptied, we are taught to look not within for comfort, but to that peculiar source which never fails.

This is my comfort in my affliction, for Thy Word hath quickened me. The external comfort of the Christian is the Word of God, and the internal comfort is the Spirit who quickens by that Word. He does not always give comfort by a distinct and sudden act, but He quickens us and so He comforts us. In the midst of grief He speaks of everlasting love, of a Saviour who has borne our sorrows and carried our griefs, who wept at the grave of His friend and who now lives to wipe away all tears from the eyes of His people.

We pray that the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, would comfort your hearts and stablish you. For comfort alone is not enough, and constancy alone will not suffice, but the Lord can comfort to purpose and establish the soul in every good word and work even while the wound is yet open.

May the bereaved be held up in great prayer, for it is little prayer that brings us low and great prayer that lifts us up. May they be enabled to cast their burden upon the Lord who knows the enormity of grief and the weight of loss, and who is able to bear it for them and to enable them to bear it. May they find that though misery for a night may seem as waters that overflow, yet those waters pass away, and there remains the sure mercy of Him who says, I will not leave you comfortless.

We commend this family and every mourning friend to the tender compassion of Christ, who died to redeem such souls as ours and rose again that those who sleep in Him shall not sorrow as others which have no hope. May the Spirit of God teach each aching heart to say of the precious Bible, This is my comfort in my affliction, and may that comfort lead to a sure trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, in whom alone is salvation and life everlasting.

Our Father, we ask Thee to look in mercy upon those who weep today. Comfort them with Thy presence, quicken them by Thy Word, and give them peace that passeth understanding. Draw them to Thy Son, and grant that this sorrow may be sanctified to their eternal good. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth to comfort and to save. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We join you in prayer for this family and for all the friends who are grieving after losing their loved one yesterday. The Lord knows the weight of this sorrow, and we ask Him to draw near to each heart that is hurting and to grant His comfort and peace in this time of bereavement.

In times of loss and death and bereavement of relations, the Scriptures are given to us as medicines for the soul. We encourage you to dive into them as into a chest of medicines and keep them in your mind, especially the Gospels, the Acts, and the Apostolic Epistles. There you will find comfort for your trouble and the sure hope we have in Christ. For those who have fallen asleep in Christ, we do not grieve without hope, because the promise is that the dead shall rise in Christ and that we shall be ever with the Lord. All will partake in the resurrection, but glory belongs to those who are in Christ, and that abundant honor and the comfort of being with Him is given to strengthen us even now.

The Lord spoke of rains and floods and winds as the calamities and afflictions that befall us in this life, including bereavements, deaths, and loss of friends. The soul that is founded on the rock, which is the steadfastness of His teaching, is not overcome by these waves. His commands are stronger than any rock and set us above the waves of human affairs. When we keep His word and trust in Him, we can stand firm even when grief beats against us, as Job stood unmoved and as the apostles stood firm when every trial pressed upon them.

We also take comfort together in our mutual faith. When we see one another and are joined together as members of one body in Christ, great comfort is received. You are not alone in this grief, and we share in both tribulation and comfort with you.

Let us pray. Heavenly Father, we lift up this family and every friend who mourns this loss. Have mercy upon them and surround them with Your presence. Grant them comfort that comes from Your Spirit, peace that guards their hearts, and hope in the resurrection through Jesus Christ alone, in whom alone is salvation. Help them to rest on Christ the rock and to find daily strength in Your Word. Sustain them in the days ahead and let them know the comfort of being ever with the Lord for those who are in Christ. We ask this in the name of Jesus, amen.
