Silas
Beloved of All
Your burden for your family comes through so clearly, and the Lord hears the cries of a praying parent who is weary from division, disrespect and chaos. He sees the exhaustion you carry, the hurt over your older daughter's choices, and your desire to protect your younger daughter and your son. Bringing these things to Him in prayer is right and good, and He invites you to cast your cares on Him because He cares for you.
Scripture gives us confidence that God knows how to rescue those who want to walk in righteousness, even when they feel vexed and worn down by the ungodly influences around them. Lot is held out as an example of this. He was distressed by the way of life surrounding him, and yet God in mercy made a way of deliverance for him. In the same way, the Lord has not left you without protection. He gives His angels charge over His people, and as with Job, there is a hedge that He places around those who are His. That protection is real, but Scripture also exhorts us to keep ourselves in the love of God, to stay close to Him and not move outside of His hand by walking away from His ways. Your continued prayer, your dedication of your home to Him, and your desire to be filled with His peace and light are part of remaining under that covering.
For your older daughter, I join you in praying that the Lord would open her eyes and gently lead her back to Himself first, and then back to the family and faith in which she was raised. Living together outside of marriage is not marriage in God's sight, and Scripture is clear that marriage is the lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and that sexual union and shared home life belong within that covenant. When that boundary is set aside, it opens the door to deception, manipulation, financial exploitation and spiritual bondage, just as you have described. We cannot ask God to bless a path that is outside His design, but we can ask Him to bring conviction, clarity and freedom. Pray that she will see that this young man is not her husband, not her father and not the one to whom she owes the obligations of marriage, and that the false sense of commitment and debt she feels would be broken. She is a child of the Most High God, she is not without a home or a supportive family, and she does not need to change her faith or leave her church family to earn acceptance from anyone. Pray also that she would again honor her parents as Scripture commands, be grateful for the work God has given her, and steward well the promotion He has provided, rather than carrying a burden that was never hers to bear.
The influence you describe from this young man's mother is painful to witness. Scripture shows how powerful a parent's influence can be, and how an ungodly influence from a mother can help shape a son toward arrogance, pride and selfishness, as was seen in the life of Athaliah and her son who did evil in the sight of the Lord like the house of Ahab. We can pray that the Lord would frustrate every divisive and manipulative plan, expose motives that are rooted in jealousy and control, and block ungodly counsel that encourages your daughter to live together before marriage or to have children outside of marriage. That woman has no God given authority as a parent in your daughter's life, and it is right to ask God to limit her influence and to turn her attention to her own household.
You also mentioned your younger daughter who is now living closer to school. The story of Dinah, the daughter of Jacob, is a sober reminder that when a young woman steps out to find fellowship among those who do not share her faith and values, she can become vulnerable to those who would prey on her good character. Pray that the Lord would put a hedge around your younger daughter, keep her steadfast, surround her with godly friendships and mentors, and help her to see clearly that living together outside marriage is never an acceptable path. Ask that she would hold fast to the truth that she should not be unequally yoked, but should seek a spouse who honors the Lord and values the sanctity of marriage.
For your son, be assured that he is deeply loved and valued by God and by you. He is not a burden or an embarrassment, he is a blessing. Every spirit of hatred, mockery and exclusion directed toward him is contrary to God's heart. Pray that the Lord would shine His light in every dark place, grant him peace that surpasses understanding, give him patience and functional language to express his needs in a godly manner, and restore the sweet fellowship he once shared with his sister. Pray for wisdom for you, for caregivers and for his care team, that they may help bring out the best in him, and that his progress would be established without setback.
For you, as you have prayed, may the peace of God which surpasses all understanding guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus, may the Lord fight for you as He promises in Exodus, and may He frustrate every scheme to isolate, divide and destroy. The promise that greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world remains true, and no weapon formed against you will finally prosper when you are in Christ. Like Jacob who reminded the Lord of His promise to return to his family and to his land and to find that God would be with him and deal well with him, you can remind the Lord of His promises to be with you, to provide for you according to Philippians 4:19, and to restore what has been torn. Ask Him to mend what has been wounded, to restore unity, joy and fellowship in your home, and in His time to provide godly spouses for your daughters who will love as Christ loves the church and lead in righteousness.
May the Lord anoint your home, fill you with His Holy Spirit, keep you in safe travel and make you a beacon of His light wherever you go. May He saturate you and your children with His favor, joy and protection, and gently lead your older daughter out of bondage into freedom, peace and restoration.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ who alone is our Savior and Redeemer, we plead Your covering over this mother and her children. Place Your hedge of protection and Your full armor around them, give Your angels charge over them, block every divisive and jealous influence, and frustrate every plan meant to bring chaos and isolation. Open the eyes of the older daughter to see the truth, break every false obligation and stubborn chain, and draw her back to You, to her family, to her church family and to a path of wisdom and purity. Guard the younger daughter and the son, keep them in Your love, and restore this family to unity and peace for Your glory. Amen
