Silas
Beloved of All
Your love for your daughter and your desire to see her walk in truth comes through clearly in your prayer, and it is right to bring all of this before the Lord. He sees the hurt, the exhaustion, the financial strain, and the division you have described, and He hears you as you plead for mercy and protection over your family.
Scripture is clear from the beginning that God made us male and female and that marriage is His design, when a man leaves his father and mother and cleaves to his wife and the two become one flesh. What God has joined together, no one should put asunder. Jesus pointed back to that original ideal, not to what people permit because of hardness of heart. Living together outside of that covenant, sharing intimacy and the responsibilities of marriage without the covenant itself, is not God's way and cannot be affirmed or asked to be blessed. It brings confusion, hardship and spiritual bondage rather than the security and holiness God intends. Your prayer that your daughter would see this relationship for what it is, not a marriage, not a covering, not a place of shepherding and provision, but a stumbling block to her walk with Christ, is a prayer in line with God's Word. Pray that the Holy Spirit will give her conviction, clarity to see the red flags, and courage to step out of what is draining her and into the light.
The Scriptures show how powerful the influence of a mother or a counselor can be. A godly mother can shape her children toward the Lord through prayer and faithful instruction, and that influence is a great gift. But the Bible also shows the opposite, when a mother counsels her children toward wickedness and selfish ends, leading them away from what is right. In your situation you are describing counsel that encourages living together, bearing children outside of marriage, treating a dating relationship as if it were marriage, dishonoring family and the way you worship, and using your daughter's income while isolating her from those who love her. That kind of counsel is not rooted in the Word of God and should not be given weight in her life. It is right to pray that the Lord would expose motives, frustrate ungodly plans to control, divide and isolate, and break every chain and scheme that would keep your daughter bound.
Isolation is a common tool of control. When a young woman is pulled away from her parents, her siblings, and her church friends, she loses the very voices that would speak truth and offer safety. God called Jacob to return to the land of his fathers and to his family with the promise, I will be with you. That call to return to family and to the place of promise is still God's heart when His children have wandered into a hard and confusing place. Pray that your daughter will hunger again for righteousness, for the fellowship of believers, and for the wisdom and safety of the family God has given her. Whoever does the will of God belongs to the family of God, and that family bond in Christ is meant to be a source of strength, not something to be abandoned for a relationship that depletes her.
You have also noted laziness, dishonesty, manipulation and financial exploitation. Scripture warns that idleness opens the door to many evils and that a life with an abundance of bread can lead to a life with little diligence. A man who is not willing to work, to provide, to speak truthfully and to lead with humility and respect is not ready to be a husband or a spiritual leader. It is wise and biblical for your daughter to protect what God has entrusted to her, to refuse to take on debt to sustain another person's needs, and to stop allowing her resources to be used to maintain a lifestyle outside of God's design. Pray for wisdom for her to set those boundaries and for strength to keep them.
There is also the call to honor father and mother, which is the first commandment with promise, and the call for parents to teach the ways of God diligently when they sit in the house, when they walk by the way, when they lie down and when they rise up. You have raised your daughter in that way, and God does not forget those seeds. Even when a child is walking in a polluted environment, and we see in Scripture how living in a corrupt culture touched Lot and his family for generations, God is still able to redeem. Ruth came from Moab, a nation born out of Lot's failure, yet God brought her into the lineage of Christ through a faithful redeemer who sought her good and provided rest for her. That is a picture of what Christ does for us. No matter how long a stronghold has stood, the Lord can break it and bring restoration when a heart turns back to Him.
Continue to pray as you have been, pleading the blood of Jesus over yourself and your children, asking that no weapon formed against you will prosper, that every word spoken against you would be blocked, and that the Lord would restore peace, respect, unity and joy in your home. Pray that when your daughter visits, the influence of control and disrespect would have no power over her, and that she would remember who she is as a child of the Most High God. She does not need the approval of those who do not have biblical authority in her life, and she does not need to remain in a place where she is made to feel worthless and exhausted. Her worth is in Christ.
Ask the Lord to soften her heart to receive correction, to restore her grateful, gracious, loving and respectful spirit, and to fill her with the Holy Spirit. Pray for her job that God has graciously given and promoted her in, that it would be protected from interference and that she would steward it well. And pray that in God's time and in God's way, if it is His will, He would bring a godly spouse who will love Him first and lead well, rather than one who demands and demeans.
Keep walking in love and truth. Speak the truth without bitterness, keep the door open for honest conversation, maintain fellowship with your church community, and do not take on responsibilities that are not yours to bear. Trust the Lord to do what only He can do supernaturally, to remove obstacles and voices that contradict His Word, to open your daughter's eyes, and to guide her swiftly out of bondage with no regrets and back to faith, family and the path of righteousness. Nothing is impossible for Him.
