Silas
Beloved of All
Your heart for your family is evident in this prayer, and the Lord hears the cries of His children when they come before His throne of grace. He knows the heaviness you carry for your children, the exhaustion and division you have felt, and the desire you have for restoration, respect, gratefulness and true fellowship in your home.
Scripture gives clarity about why you are so burdened for your older daughter. Living together outside of marriage is not marriage in God's eyes. Marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and sexual union and shared living belong within that covenant. Outside of it, that arrangement does not honor the Lord and it opens the door to spiritual bondage, deception and hurt, as 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 teaches. Your concern is not judgment but love, wanting her to see her true worth and to belong first to the Lord, not to be made responsible to carry a man who is not ready to lead or to provide in a godly way. It is right to pray that she would see the red flags you have seen, the financial exploitation, the mood swings, the disrespect, the isolation from family, the harm to her health including her breathing, and the pressure to defend a false image of the relationship.
The Scriptures also show that God is a protector of His people. He puts a hedge around those who are His and gives His angels charge over them. As with Job, the enemy cannot simply break through that protection. And in Christ, every power of darkness has been disarmed and overcome. Colossians 2:15 and 1 John 4:4 remind us that greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world, and no weapon formed against you will finally prosper when you are abiding in Christ. That does not mean there will be no spiritual warfare, but it means you can stand in the victory Jesus has already won and ask for every word curse, generational pattern, and influence of witchcraft or manipulation to be broken and to flee in His name. You do not need to fear, but to keep bringing your household under the covering of the blood of Jesus and the peace of God that surpasses understanding to guard your hearts and minds in Philippians 4:7.
There is a beautiful pattern in Scripture of God calling His people back to family and promising His presence there. When Jacob was far from home, the Lord said to him, return to the land of your fathers and to your family and I will be with you. Jacob later clung to that very promise in prayer when he was afraid, reminding the Lord, you told me to return and you said you would deal well with me. God is the God who meets us and then calls us back to the place of family, stability and wisdom. Pray in that same way for your daughter, that the Lord would put in her heart a hunger for righteousness instead of stubbornness, that He would remove pride and shame and pressure that blinds her, and that He would give her clarity to release what is toxic and to desire to come back to safety, stability and joy, not with regret but with a sense of freedom. Ask the Lord to frustrate every plan that seeks to isolate and divide her from those who love her unconditionally, and to turn hearts of children to parents and parents to children as Malachi 4:6 describes.
Scripture also warns that even when a person seeks to walk uprightly, living continually in a corrupting environment can cost a family dearly. Lot was counted righteous, yet his choice to dwell in the midst of a corrupt society brought deep harm to the morals and unity of his children and household. That is why your prayer for your daughter to be led out of an unhealthy living arrangement is so important, not only for her faith and future but for her health, her finances, her reputation and her relationships with you, her siblings and extended family.
For your younger daughter, continue to pray that she would remain steadfast and not be swayed by an ungodly example. Ask the Lord to surround her with godly friendships and mentors who will encourage her to honor marriage as God intended and to not see cohabitation as an acceptable path, as 2 Corinthians 6:14 teaches. Pray that the sweet bond she has with her brother and sister would be protected from divisive tactics, and that she would grow in gratefulness and kindness rather than ungratefulness or hatred.
For your son, be assured that in the eyes of God he is not a burden or an embarrassment but a blessing to be cherished and protected. Pray that the Lord would surround him with love and acceptance, that any mockery, exclusion, hatred or demeaning word spoken over him would be blocked and would have no place in his life, and that his relationships with you, his sisters, caregivers and extended family would be strengthened. The Lord sees how he is treated and He is his defender.
For yourself, ask for the Lord to be your strength and to keep your home as a sanctuary of His presence where love, unity and peace reign. The Lord fights for you, as Exodus 14:14 says, so you do not have to fight in your own strength or use manipulation or control to hold your family together. Continue to speak truth in love, keep communication open, model forgiveness and respect, and trust God to mend what has been torn and heal what has been wounded. Bring your financial needs before Him as well, trusting Philippians 4:19 that He will supply what you need, not for selfish gain but so your family can be a testimony of His provision.
Pray also for the young man and his mother, not to bless what is dishonoring to God, but that the Lord would correct what is wrong, that each would take responsibility for their own actions instead of placing undue burdens on your daughter, and that any influence that encourages dependence, financial hardship, or looking down on your family would be removed. Pray that your daughter would no longer feel she must put them before her faith, her parent, her siblings and her family, and that she would stop taking on responsibilities that are not hers to carry.
May the Lord guard your older daughter's future, her health, her finances and her faith, open her eyes to the truth of His Word, and guide her to a path that will bless her life rather than destroy it. And may He in His mercy one day provide godly spouses for your daughters, men who will love them as Christ loves the church and honor the covenant of marriage as Ephesians 5:25 describes, men who respect the values they were raised with.
Keep standing on the promises you have claimed, keep pleading the protection of Jesus over every member of your household, and keep trusting the One who is faithful to restore. He is able to bring peace where there has been strife, unity where there has been division, and joy where there has been exhaustion.
