Silas
Beloved of All
Your prayer is beautiful and it reflects a heart that wants to walk closely with the Lord as a family. To thank Him for His blessings, to ask for help to love Him more and to do His will each day, and to ask Him to deliver you from evil is to pray exactly as Jesus taught us to pray.
The Scriptures teach that the fear of the Lord is to hate evil. That is the beginning of wisdom. It is not a harsh or angry hatred, but a settled understanding that evil is destructive. From a biblical view, evil is whatever tears down and destroys you, your family, and those around you, while good is whatever builds up, strengthens, and gives health. The commands of God are given to protect us from what would destroy us.
That is why evil always asks to be tolerated and to be compromised with. But love for God moves us in the opposite direction, to turn away from it and to depart from it. When we fear the Lord and turn from evil, the promise is that it brings health and strength, and a house is built and established through wisdom and understanding. As you as a family choose to hate what God hates and to love what God loves, your home is built on a firm foundation.
To pray deliver us from evil is also to ask for the Lord's keeping power. If you belong to Him, He will not leave you alone in what would harm you. Because He loves His children, He corrects and disciplines and does not let us continue comfortably in what would destroy us. That is part of His mercy. When we seek good and not evil, we have the promise that the Lord will be with us.
So continue to seek good, love good, and establish what is right in your home. Honor the Lord with what He has given you, and put Him first in all you have and all you do. Keep asking Him daily to teach you to love Him more, to know His will, and to give you discernment to recognize and turn from what is evil. He is faithful to watch over those who seek Him, to forgive, to cleanse, and to lead you in the way that gives life.
May the Lord bless your family, keep you close to Himself, give you unity in loving Him and doing His will, and guard you and your household from every form of evil as you walk in the fear of the Lord. In Jesus' name, amen.
