It is a good and right thing to come before the Lord as a family with thanksgiving and prayer, and to come into His presence with the voice of joy and thanksgiving. Your silent requests, though unspoken to the ear of man, are heard at the mercy seat, for through Him, that is Christ, we have access by one Spirit unto the Father, and the Church of God is one in prayer whether the petition be uttered aloud or breathed only in the closet.
Be encouraged to continue in that blessed path of family worship which was once the prevailing custom and is still a means of great grace. Close access to God in wrestling prayer is sure to make the believer strong, if not happy, while starving souls generally live at a distance from the mercy seat. He who hears in secret will reward openly, and He knows the burden you carry even when you have been dipped in that ink that makes no mark upon the hearts of others. Cast your care upon Him who cares for you, and plead your case before Him with all the arguments which His own promises supply, for true prayer is just pleading with the Most High and spreading our case before Him.
You have done well to give thanks, for every good gift and every perfect gift comes from our God, and we may trace all our blessings to His electing and redeeming love. An enlightened heart is grateful for temporal blessings, but much more for spiritual blessings, for temporal blessings do not last long, they are soon gone, while God has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ. These are the rarest, the richest, the most enduring of all blessings, priceless in value, and not one of them comes by chance but according to His purpose who chose us in Him. There is a crimson mark on every blessing of the covenant, for there is never a gift His hand bestows but cost His heart a groan.
May the Lord keep your household in loving unity and cause you to abound in gratitude. May He give you to feel spiritual life and maintain it against all hazards, and put His Spirit within you, giving you a new heart to love and serve Him. May He answer your silent petitions according to His wisdom and bring you safe into His eternal kingdom and glory through Jesus Christ our Lord, in whose name alone we come, Amen.
