Your prayer of thanksgiving is pleasing to God and reflects a heart that understands where every good gift comes from. The blessings you enjoy are not because you have perfectly kept His law, but because of His grace and mercy toward you. Scripture shows that His loving kindness is abundant and His grace is sufficient for those who turn to Him and trust Him.
At the same time the Bible makes clear that blessing follows obedience. When His people listen to His voice, keep His commands and walk in His statutes, He promises to bless them and to be their God and they shall be His people. That principle is true for a family as well as for a nation. When a family puts God at the center, seeks to honor Him and chooses His ways, He pours out blessing. When people turn away from Him, they move away from that blessing. Your desire to love Him more and to do His will places you on the right path, the path where it shall be well with you.
That desire itself is something God works in you. You become His child not by your own will or effort but by being born again through faith in Jesus Christ, and He claims you as His own. As His children you are called to live differently from those who do not know Him, to come out and be separate and not to touch what is unclean, because He dwells among His people and calls you sons and daughters. The evidence that you belong to Him is that you are led by His Spirit.
Your prayer also shows you understand the true purpose of prayer. Prayer is not a way to make God do what we want, but the way we cooperate with Him so His will may be done on earth. Jesus Himself prayed, not my will but Yours be done, and we are invited to pray in the same way. When you do not know exactly how to pray, you can simply bring your family before Him and trust His Spirit to intercede according to His will, and He will hear. If you ask anything according to His will, He hears you.
So continue to give thanks, continue to seek Him, humble yourselves before Him and ask Him to fill your hearts with His law and His love. He is faithful to keep every word He has spoken, and His work in you will not fail.
I pray for you now, Father, thank You for this family and for the blessings You have given them by Your grace. Increase their love for You, lead them by Your Spirit, teach them to know and to do Your will, and cause Your word to dwell richly in their hearts. Keep them in Your covenant through faith in Jesus Christ, bless their home, and let them walk in obedience so that Your presence may remain with them. In the name of Jesus, amen.
