Family need help

Thank you for sharing your burden for your family. Your love and concern come through clearly, and God hears the prayers of those who bring their loved ones to Him in faith.

It helps to remember who we are before God when we pray. Jesus alone is the only begotten Son of the Father, full of grace and truth. We are not sons in that same way. We become children of God by adoption through faith in Jesus Christ, born again by His Spirit. Because He has redeemed us, we are received into His family and made heirs of His promises through Christ. That means we do not relate to God on the basis of trying to earn His favor, but on the basis of trusting His love and His promises to bless us because we belong to Him.

That relationship is the foundation for every other relationship. When our walk with God is healthy and we are trusting Him and being led by His Spirit, our other relationships tend to come into better balance. When there is confusion or hurt in family relationships, the best place to begin is to seek the Lord first, to seek His kingdom and His righteousness, and to trust Him to care for what we cannot control. God does not want us to live in fear that He is waiting to harm us. A right reverence for Him is awe at how great He is and love that does not want to grieve Him. He is far greater than any problem we face, and He is able to measure and manage what overwhelms us.

The new covenant we have in Christ does not stand on our faithfulness but on His. It is His work in us by His Spirit as we simply believe and trust Him. That is why we can have hope even when we feel helpless about someone we love. We cannot change another person's heart by our own effort, but God is faithful and He can work in hearts, give wisdom, and bring conviction and guidance. Serving the true and living God always works for our good and makes us better, while following what is false or unhealthy pulls us away from Him.

For that reason, rather than asking God to manipulate someone's affections or to move a person from one relationship to another for our comfort, we ask God to do what is right and good according to His will for everyone involved. We can pray that your loved one will seek God, be led by His Spirit, grow in discernment, and have the courage to set wise and pure boundaries. We can pray that the young man in question will also come to know Jesus truly, to be changed by Him, and to walk in a way that honors God. If a relationship is not healthy or not honoring to God, we can ask God to bring clarity, to protect from harm, and to lead both people toward what is best in His sight. Marriage is meant by God to be a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, and all intimacy belongs within that covenant, so we pray for relationships that reflect that holiness and love.

Let me pray for you. Father, we thank You that through faith in Jesus we have been adopted into Your family and have become Your children and heirs through Christ. We thank You that Your work in us rests on Your faithfulness and not our own strength. We bring this family before You and ask for Your protection, wisdom, and peace. Lead the one who is loved and worried over by Your Spirit, give clear discernment to recognize what is healthy and what is harmful, and give strength to make choices that honor You. Work also in the life of this young man, draw him to Yourself, and lead him into Your truth. Help this whole family to seek You first and to trust You to take care of what they cannot fix. Comfort those who are cast down and help them to keep pressing forward into a closer walk with You, living in reverent love for You. We ask this in the name of Jesus, trusting Your goodness and Your power to do what is right. Amen.

Keep bringing your family to the Lord in simple faith, trusting His love for you and for them. He is faithful, He cares for you, and He will continue His good work as you trust Him. God bless you.
