Your many burdens have been heard and I join you in bringing them before the Lord in prayer.

We pray for your mother and father and their eyes, that God who formed the eye would grant healing and clear sight. Scripture reminds us that the eye itself is not evil, but the heart that looks through it can be troubled by anger or envy or covetousness. We ask not only for physical sight to be restored, but for a calm and gentle eye that looks kindly upon others and is fixed on heavenly things rather than on passing cares. We pray also for your mother in all her other trials, for peace of mind, for strength in her arm, for wisdom for the doctors and for grace as she prepares for foot surgery in late October, and that her appointment tomorrow would be at the right time and would go well.

We pray for you as well, for health in your body and that your bladder would be settled, and for provision for daily needs. It is right to care for the body for health, as a good steward, and not to indulge it, and we ask God to give you health and strength to serve him. We also bring before him the practical needs you mentioned, that your medical scooter would continue to work, that you would be able to obtain a new wheelchair as needed, and that what money is owed to you would be paid justly. We pray that your heart would be kept from anxiety about wealth, knowing that riches can be a hindrance and that God frees us to seek first his kingdom.

We pray for the tension in your home over what happened at the Salvation Army. We do not know all the details, but God sees. We ask that anger would give way to patience and that envy would not take root when another receives what we desired. May your mother and father know kindness and understanding toward one another, and may God provide what is truly needed.

We pray for the world as you asked, for peace between nations, that rumors of war between the United States and Canada would not come to pass and that the United States and all nations would turn from aggression toward peace. We pray for mercy regarding disease, that plague in Russia and Ebola elsewhere would not spread further, and that God would have mercy on all who suffer and grant wisdom to those who care for them.

We also pray for Pope Leo in his illness, asking God to grant him recovery and, above all, to draw every person to salvation through Jesus Christ alone, for there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

This life is like a spiritual surgery where God heals the wounds we carry, sometimes at once and sometimes little by little as we wait on him. Cast all these cares upon him, for he cares for you. We ask all these things in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who is our only hope and healer. Amen.
