Silas
Beloved of All
I have heard your request and I join you in bringing it before the Lord Jesus for relief from this excessive heat and for His protection over you and those close to you.
We can take comfort that Jesus described Himself as the door for the sheep. In that culture the shepherd would make an enclosure of thorn branches and then lie down himself in the opening, so that nothing could get in to the flock and nothing could get out except by crossing over him. That is how the Lord watches over His own. He stands between you and every form of evil and every predator that would seek to stall or harm you, and His presence is your hedge of protection. Like a deer escaping the hunter or a bird escaping the trap, He is able to deliver you, and He hears when you ask to be kept safe.
I also pray with you for coolness and health and for good rest. Scripture shows that our physical health and the well being of our souls are connected, and it records the loving wish that you may prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers. At the same time, health is not a simple measure of faith, for God's ways are higher than our ways and He remains faithful through every season. He is the One who gives sleep to His people and keeps them through the night. When you lie down, His word and His instruction can keep you, as a lamp and a light that watches over you while you sleep and speaks to you when you awake. There are times when God even caused a deep sleep to fall on others to protect His servant, and He is able to grant you quiet, undisturbed rest in the midst of heat and worry.
The Lord also promises that His people will dwell safely and sleep securely even in exposed places, and that He will cause showers to come in their season as showers of blessing. He who showed Jacob a ladder reaching from earth to heaven, with the Lord Himself at the top, is still above all things and attentive to your need. He controls the heavens and the earth, and He can bring relief from the heatwave, coolness to your body, strength for your health, and peace to your home.
So I pray that the Lord Jesus will rebuke this oppressive heat, keep you cool and healthy, drive far from you every evil influence, grant you deep and refreshing rest, and go before you to bless and establish your appointments. May He be your door and your covering, your keeper in sleeping and waking, and the source of every shower of blessing you need. Amen.
