Except From My Book: THE BOLD STEP
Face to Face With a Hitch!
We all know the creation story. Gen 1 gives a vivid recollection of the course of creation. I have studied this story over and over and a few things are worthy of note:
*There was a problem, a hitch that would have constituted some kind of resistance to God's perfect design for earth and what was that?
It wasn't sin, satan, or demon.
It was emptiness, darkness and shapelessness!
(Take note of these three, we will be considering the latter on.)
What was God's attitude towards these three and what should be our attitude too?
God did two things: First, His Spirit brooded upon the face of the deep!
But why would He let His Spirit do so first? He is God, He would have told darkness to vanish! God does not do anything independent of His word and His Spirit. God will always consult His word and His spirit on any operation before commencing. This ascertains the unity of the God-head. I'll come to that shortly.
Secondly, by God's spirit brooding UPON the FACE of the deep, God was simply making it clear that He was in charge and total control of darkness. Why the face? The face because God's attitude towards stubborn issues is CONFRONTATIONAL and OFFENSIVE and this, too, should be our attitude.
This takes us to God's second action - Speaking to the situation. "Let there be Light"! What kind of sentences is this? It's a command! Here is God using His word to command the entrance of light. God was neither negotiating nor diplomatic with darkness and so, He gave a command! He spoke from His office and position as the one in charge. He did not talk the problem which was darkness, He did not go murmuring or complaining, He did not even examine or analyse the dept of the problem, we have no description of how dark the darkness was because that is not relevant. He gave a command! These, too, should be our attitude.
Do you know what baffles me the most as I go through this creation account?
God did not even mention darkness, one would expect Him to command darkness off first before calling light but He didn't. He simply spoke the solution He needed which was light! We all know that without light, we cannot do anything. I do not need to emphasise the significance of light. God knew that the entrance of His word is automatically the exit of darkness. God is not a brawler, He speaks what He wants and He does what He says .He consciously employed this medium to teach us that when the word of God saturates our life, we can't stumble in the dark; we would know exactly what we want; and get it with the Help of both His spirit and His word. God wants us to know that without light(insight and revelational knowledge of Him) there's bound to be misplace of purpose and priority " The entrance of the word giveth light and understanding to the simple" God Himself needed light first to help Him create every other thing including Man. He needed light to see, appreciate and bless His creation. We need light too to create every of our desires in life.
Something more to pounder over in this story is the fact that God Himself came face to face with a challenge; God had a picture of how He wanted the world to be but here was darkness, voidness and shapelessness staring Him at the face; that was a challenge! I thought everything would have been reorganised in it's proper place at the mere appearance of God. I'll submit that God wants us to know that no man born of a woman is without one challenge or the other. If God in His Almightiness, splendour, grandeur, majesty and power could come face to face with a challenge of that kind, then challenges are inevitable in life but our reaction towards it determines the outcome of the situation!
If what you want to do will become good and beautiful like God's perfect creation, then Expect a hitch, Confront the hitch and Speak forth your desired solution. God saw darkness but He spoke light. Everything God created where first created in His mind before the actual creation.........
