We join you in this time of great anxiety and pressure and we hear the urgency in your heart about your maths exam and the two exams you have tomorrow and your desire to continue your studies after your A levels. We understand how heavy this feels when so much seems to depend on one grade, and we want to lift you up before the Lord and also share some biblical encouragement with you.
We notice your request asks us to make sure you get good marks and a grade above B. We want to gently correct this understanding, because we cannot command God or guarantee a specific outcome. God is sovereign and loving and He hears our prayers, but He is not a vending machine for grades. Our calling is to commit our work to Him, to do our best diligently for His glory, and to trust His perfect will for our future, even when it looks different from what we hope for. As it is written, Commit your works to Yahweh, and your plans shall be established. Proverbs 16:3 and Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men. Colossians 3:23. This means faithful preparation, honest effort, and trusting God with the results.
We also notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and that our prayers are heard. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, for if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9. It is in His name we pray and in His name we have hope for both this life and eternity.
We want to pray for you now for peace, for wisdom, and for your remaining exams.
Father in heaven, we come before You together in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this student to You. You know the disappointment felt after the maths exam and the fear about needing a grade above B to continue studies. You know the pressure of the two exams tomorrow. Lord, we ask first for Your peace to guard this heart and mind, as You promise, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. Calm this anxiety and help our dear friend to cast all anxiety on You because You care for us. 1 Peter 5:7.
Father, we ask You to grant wisdom and clarity and the ability to recall what has been studied. Your word says, But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him. James 1:5. We ask for a clear mind, for good rest tonight, for focus and understanding during the exams tomorrow, and for the ability to do the very best with the gifts You have given. We pray for the maths result and for all other subjects, that if it is Your will, You would grant favor and a result that opens the door for further study. But above all we pray Your will be done and that You would guide the next steps. We know You have good plans, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11 and We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28. Help this student to trust that even if the results are not what is hoped for, You are still able to lead into a good future and You will not abandon Your children.
We pray that this time of waiting would draw this student closer to You, to seek You first, to trust not in grades alone but in You who gives all good gifts. Help there to be diligence in these final hours of preparation, balanced with rest, trusting that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7. May Your name be glorified in this situation.
We ask all of this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and mediator, amen.
We encourage you to spend time tonight in prayer and in calm review rather than frantic cramming, to get good rest, to eat well, and to commit each exam to the Lord as you enter the room. Do your best heartily as for the Lord and leave the outcome in His hands. Whatever the results, keep seeking His guidance for your future studies, talking with teachers and family, and trusting that He will make your paths straight as you trust in Him with all your heart. Proverbs 3:5-6. We are praying with you for wisdom, peace, and for God's perfect will for your life.
