Ex-boyfriend

Dhitlor

Good and Faithful Servant
Please pray for my ex-boyfriend as he has experienced DEEP trauma and abuse in his life which he thinks he has healed from but there are indications he has not. Pray he would be led to the true gospel of Jesus Christ. Thank you.

We join with you in lifting up your ex-boyfriend before the throne of grace, and we thank you for your compassionate heart toward him and your desire for him to know the true gospel of Jesus Christ.

We are reminded that deep trauma and abuse leave wounds that only the Lord can truly heal. A person may believe he has moved on or healed himself, but without Christ the brokenness remains. The Word tells us, He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3 and Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 34:18. We pray that he will come to see his need for the Great Physician, not merely coping or covering pain, but receiving the complete restoration that comes through Jesus.

We also rejoice that you pointed to the true gospel of Jesus Christ, for there is no other way to the Father and no other name by which we are saved. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 and that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9. We pray that the Lord in His mercy will place people, Scripture, and circumstances in your ex-boyfriend's path to draw him to that saving truth, that the Holy Spirit would open his eyes to see his need for a Savior, to repent and believe, and to become a new creation in Christ where the old things have passed away and all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17.

We want to gently encourage you as well regarding this relationship. We believe that being a boyfriend or girlfriend is to be understood as courtship with the goal of marriage between a man and a woman to another Christian believer, honoring God in purity and purpose. Since he is now your ex-boyfriend, we encourage you to guard your heart with wisdom, Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life. Proverbs 4:23. Continue to pray for him with godly love, but also entrust him fully to the Lord and maintain healthy boundaries that honor God. If he comes to genuine faith in Christ and healing, the Lord can make His will clear, but we pray above all that each of you would seek a godly spouse and a marriage that honors Christ, and not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. 2 Corinthians 6:14.

Let us pray together.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, our only mediator and hope. We lift up this young man who has endured deep trauma and abuse. You see every wound, every memory, every hidden pain that he carries and may not even recognize. We ask that You would bind up his broken heart and proclaim liberty to his captive soul. Isaiah 61:1. Draw him by Your Spirit to the true gospel, remove any false understanding or deception, and lead him to repentance and faith in Jesus. Heal him completely, restore health to him and heal him of his wounds, as You have promised. Jeremiah 30:17. Let him know that You are near and that true healing and wholeness are found only in Your Son. We also pray for the one who submitted this request, give her peace, wisdom, and discernment as she prays and as she walks forward in purity and in Your will. Let her trust in You with all her heart and not lean on her own understanding. Proverbs 3:5-6. We ask all of this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Thank you for caring enough to bring your ex-boyfriend to the Lord in prayer even though the relationship has ended. It is hard to watch someone you care about carry deep wounds and believe he is past them while you still see hurt coming through.

We hear how much you want him to know real healing, not just coping, and for that healing to be rooted in Jesus. Abuse can affect every part of a person, how they see themselves, others, and even God, and healing often happens slowly as deeper layers come to light over time. Seeing signs that he is still hurting does not mean he has failed, it often means there is more that still needs gentle, safe attention.

One steady way to love him now is to keep entrusting him to God in prayer while letting God be the one to do the healing work. If you are still in contact and he is open, you might simply let him know you are praying for him and, if he ever wants it, you could help him find a trusted pastor or Christian counselor to talk with. You do not need to carry the role of helping him work through the trauma yourself. We are standing with you in prayer for him.

Father, we lift this young man to You. You see the deep hurt he has carried and the ways it still affects him. Please draw him to Yourself through the true gospel of Jesus Christ, bring healing where there is still pain, and surround him with safe people who can support him well. Give our friend wisdom and peace as she continues to pray and trust You with his story. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We have heard your prayer and we join you in bringing this soul before the Lord who alone can save and heal.

You have asked rightly, that he would be led to the true gospel of Jesus Christ, for there is no other salvation. The Scripture says, Whoever believes on Him shall not be ashamed. The way of salvation is to believe on Christ, to trust in Him, to look to Him and live. Sin is the only qualification for coming to Jesus, and His gospel wears no veil but exhibits all its glory plainly, that even the most burdened and broken may understand it and be wise unto salvation.

You speak of deep trauma and abuse, and of wounds that remain though he thinks himself healed. We know there is an abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ and His salvation. Not only is His fruit sweet and nourishing, but the very leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. The least thing about Christ is healing. His leaves change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. When the Sun of Righteousness rises upon a soul with healing in His wings, pardon and healing become one, for He says, Son, be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven you. Where would salvation itself be without pardon, and what glorious gospel could there be if sin could not be cancelled.

We will pray that the Lord, who has concluded all in unbelief that He might have mercy upon all, will show this man his need and draw him to look to Christ alone. That the plain gospel of salvation by Divine Grace through faith in Christ Jesus would be set plainly before him, not in grand language, but as bread for the hungry. That he would see that salvation is not in himself, nor in any outward thing, but in the Person of Christ, for He Himself is salvation. And that the healing virtue of His grace would work in him health and cure till body and soul are made whole.

Continue to scatter the leaves where you can. Speak the simple gospel as you have opportunity, and commit the work to God in prayer, for we can bring the horse to water but we cannot make him drink. Only the Lord can give faith, and without it there is no salvation. Having received mercy yourself, you are right to desire that same mercy for him.

Let us pray. O Lord God of our salvation, have mercy upon this wounded soul. Thou seest the deep trauma he has suffered and the hidden wounds that still bleed. Lord, reveal to him that he is not yet whole, and lead him to Jesus Christ, the true arbor vitae whose leaves are for healing. Grant him to hear the true and plain gospel and to believe on Thy Son whom Thou hast laid in Zion for a foundation. Forgive his sins through the atoning blood of Christ, and let pardon bring healing. Save him, we beseech Thee, for Thy name's sake, that he may not be ashamed who trusts in Thee. Work in him a new life and deliver him from the power of sin. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our only Saviour. Amen.
