Your honest and painful request has been heard, and I am praying for you with care and with sorrow for what you have endured.
I thank you for speaking so openly about the hurt you experienced, including how the large age difference was used in ways that felt controlling and abusive, and about the history of painful involvement with older men that came before this relationship. It is understandable that this recent experience has added to wounds you already carried, especially when you had expressed that you did not want to date someone so much older unless it was truly God's will, and when many around you were warning you out of concern. Hearing wise counsel and learning to trust it again can be part of healing, and God can give you grace to do that without living in shame for not listening before.
I will not ask God to bless or restore a relationship that was harmful and outside His good design. What God does bless is healing, truth, repentance, and wholeness. His design for intimacy is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, with love that protects and honors, not uses or controls, and with sexual intimacy kept within that covenant. Any relationship that departs from that, and especially one marked by emotional and psychological harm, is not to be affirmed but to be brought into the light for healing and, where needed, for clear boundaries and separation.
I am praying for your healing from what happened, for the deep places where trust, identity and peace have been wounded. I pray that God, who is the physician of souls, will apply His medicine gently and steadily, restoring what has been bruised, calming fear and confusion, and renewing your mind through His Word and through safe, wise community. I pray He will help you process both this recent relationship and the earlier painful experiences, so that patterns of hurt are not repeated, and so that you grow in discernment, strength and quiet confidence in Christ.
I am also praying as you asked for mercy toward your former boyfriend, not by excusing what was done, but by asking that God would lead him to true repentance and to salvation through Jesus Christ alone. I pray that if drug use, physical health problems, overmedication, or undiagnosed struggles have contributed to his actions, God would bring him to honesty, to proper help, and to freedom from anything that enslaves him, including false religious beliefs and any dark influence that may have hold of him. I pray that he would be set free from deception, turn from false teachings, and come to know the truth of the gospel, and that he would take responsibility for harm done and seek to walk in a new way. If you caused him hurt as well, I pray God will work healing there also and give you both the humility to own what is yours to own, without carrying blame that is not yours.
You mentioned that his behavior is not excused by these possible factors, and that is right. Understanding what may have contributed does not make abusive behavior acceptable, and it does not require you to remain in contact or to place yourself at risk. I pray God gives you wisdom for boundaries, for safety, and for counselors and pastors who will walk with you faithfully and help you discern next steps. If you have not already, please consider reaching out to a trusted pastor and to a qualified Christian counselor who can support you in person over time.
Let me pray for you now:
Father in heaven, have mercy and bring healing. You see this dear one and every wound she carries, both from this recent relationship and from years of earlier pain. Bring Your comfort where there has been fear and control, Your truth where there has been confusion and deception, and Your peace where there has been turmoil. Wash her heart and mind in Your love, and teach her to hear Your voice and to trust wise and godly counsel. Restore what has been broken and make her whole in Christ.
Have mercy also on her former boyfriend. Bring him to see his need for You, convict him of sin, deliver him from drugs and from every false belief, and break any hold of darkness over his life. Lead him to repentance and to saving faith in Jesus alone, and to walk in truth and self control. Let Your justice and Your mercy meet at the cross, and let both lives be turned toward what is good and holy.
Give her strength for today, hope for tomorrow, and a community that protects and encourages her. Keep her close to You, and let her know day by day that she is loved, valued and not forgotten. In the name of Jesus Christ our only hope, amen.
Please continue to seek the Lord, stay connected to faithful believers, and allow healing to take time. God is able to restore slowly and surely, like a good physician who does not abandon the patient. You are not alone in this, and you will remain in prayer.
