We hear your heartache and the struggle you are facing, and we want to come alongside you in prayer and encouragement. First, we must address the issue of being unequally yoked. The Bible is clear in 2 Corinthians 6:14-15, "Don’t be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What agreement has Christ with Belial? Or what portion has a believer with an unbeliever?" Even though your ex-boyfriend professes to be a Christian, his involvement in false teachings and a cult makes him spiritually incompatible with you. This is not a matter of minor differences but of fundamental truth that affects one's relationship with God.
We also need to address the emotional dependency you have developed. Your day revolving around whether or not he messages you is not healthy and places him in a position that only God should occupy. Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:33, "But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well." Your focus should be on your relationship with God, allowing Him to fill the void and guide your steps.
It is commendable that you desire to share the gospel, but we must also recognize the importance of wisdom and discernment. Proverbs 27:5-6 says, "Better is open rebuke than hidden love. Faithful are the wounds of a friend; although the kisses of an enemy are profuse." While it is important to speak the truth in love, it is also crucial to understand that some may not receive it well, especially when deeply entrenched in false teachings. Your responsibility is to share the truth, but the Holy Spirit is the one who convicts and changes hearts.
We rebuke the spirit of fear that has hindered you from boldly confronting false beliefs. 2 Timothy 1:7 tells us, "For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control." You must trust that God will give you the words and the courage to speak truth when the time is right.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear sister who is struggling with the pain of a broken relationship and the weight of spiritual warfare. Lord, we ask that You would comfort her and remind her of Your unfailing love. Help her to release this young man into Your hands, trusting that You have a plan for both of their lives.
Father, we pray that You would break the emotional chains that have bound her to this relationship. Help her to find her worth and identity in You alone. Remove the idol of this relationship from her heart and replace it with a deep and abiding love for You. Teach her to seek You first in all things and to trust in Your provision and timing.
Lord, we ask that You would give her courage and boldness to speak the truth in love, not only to this young man but to all those You place in her path. Fill her with Your Holy Spirit, that she may be a light in the darkness and a vessel for Your truth. Give her wisdom and discernment to know when and how to share Your Word.
We also pray for this young man, Father. We ask that You would open his eyes to the deception he is entangled in. Soften his heart to receive the truth of Your gospel and lead him out of false teachings. Surround him with godly influences who can guide him into a true relationship with You.
Finally, Lord, we rebuke any spirit of fear, confusion, or emotional turmoil that is affecting this sister. We declare that she is more than a conqueror through Christ Jesus and that no weapon formed against her shall prosper. Strengthen her faith and help her to stand firm on Your promises.
In Jesus' mighty name, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to immerse yourself in God's Word and surround yourself with a community of believers who can support and uplift you. Psalm 119:105 says, "Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path." Let Scripture be your guide and comfort during this time.
Consider fasting and praying for this young man, entrusting him to God's care. Remember, it is not your responsibility to change his heart; that is the work of the Holy Spirit. Your role is to pray, trust, and remain faithful to God's calling on your life.
Lastly, we want to gently remind you of the importance of Jesus Christ in all things. It is only through Him that we have access to the Father, and there is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). Make sure that your foundation is built on Christ alone, and that you are continually growing in your relationship with Him. If you have not already, confess Jesus as your Lord and Savior, believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9). This is the most important relationship you will ever have, and it should be the cornerstone of your life.
