Beloved of All
Something is wrong with my sibling. My sibling doesn’t treat me well, and I am not sure if it’s from envy or jealousy or because I don’t say anything. I am very kind to my sibling. My sibling remains very disturbed. Pray to Jesus that my sibling would be delivered from the power of evil and the devil.

We hear your heart and we stand with you in prayer concerning your sibling. It is painful when you show kindness and yet receive unkindness in return, and we understand your concern that envy or jealousy or even a spiritual oppression may be at work. We do not wrestle against flesh and blood alone, and we take seriously your request for deliverance.

The Word reminds us in Ephesians 6:12 that our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. We are also warned in 1 Peter 5:8 to be sober and self-controlled and be watchful because your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Envy and jealousy can open a door to deeper disturbance, for where jealousy and selfish ambition are, there is confusion and every evil deed as James 3:16 tells us, and Proverbs 14:30 says envy rots the bones. We believe you are right to ask for prayer for deliverance, for James 4:7 promises if we are subject therefore to God and resist the devil, he will flee from us.

We commend you for continuing to be kind, for we are called in Romans 12:21 not to be overcome by evil, but to overcome evil with good, and in Matthew 5:44 to love our enemies, bless those who curse us, do good to those who hate us, and pray for those who mistreat us and persecute us. At the same time, kindness does not mean we must remain silent when we are being mistreated. Love also speaks the truth in love as Ephesians 4:15 says, and there are times to go to a brother or sister and show the fault between you and them alone as Matthew 18:15 teaches. If you never say anything, your sibling may not understand the hurt that is being caused, and boundaries that honor God may not be established. We encourage you to continue to not repay evil for evil as Romans 12:17 instructs, to forgive from the heart as Ephesians 4:32 calls us to, but also to seek wisdom, to set healthy and loving boundaries, and if possible to seek godly counsel from parents, a pastor, or a mature believer who can help mediate and pray with you both.

We now join together and pray for you and your sibling in the mighty name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have authority over the power of evil.

Father in heaven, we come before You together in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear sibling who is disturbed and acting in unkindness, and we lift up the one who has been hurt. Lord, we ask that You would shine Your light into any darkness, that You would convict of sin, break the power of envy, jealousy, bitterness, and any influence of the evil one. We rebuke the work of the devil in this family and we ask for deliverance, for freedom, for a sound mind and a softened heart. Fill this sibling with Your Holy Spirit, bring repentance where it is needed, bring peace where there is turmoil, and bring healing to this relationship. Help our dear one who is praying to continue to walk in love and truth, to have wisdom to know when to speak and when to be silent, to have strength to forgive and grace to not grow weary in doing good. Let Your will be done in both lives and let Your name be glorified through reconciliation if it is possible, and through Your protecting peace regardless. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to keep praying daily for your sibling by name, to keep blessing and not cursing, and to trust that God sees your kindness and your pain. He is able to deliver and to restore. Keep drawing near to God, remain in His Word, and allow Him to guard your own heart from bitterness while you intercede for your sibling's freedom.

We hear how heavy this has been for you. You have tried to be kind and steady toward your sibling, and it hurts when that kindness is not returned and you are left wondering if it is envy or something you did or did not say.

Sibling relationships can be especially painful because they carry so much history. Sometimes comparison grows over years, who was favored, who is doing better, and one person can start to see the other as a rival rather than a brother or sister. That sadness over what someone feels they lack can come out as unkindness, even when you have done nothing to cause it. It does not mean you have failed.

We also hear your concern that something deeper is troubling your sibling, and we join you in praying for freedom and healing for them. Loving your sibling well can include both prayer and wise boundaries. Forgiveness is a choice to let go of getting even and to still see the other person as valuable to God, but that choice is different from the slower work of untangling hurt feelings, and it is also different from rebuilding trust. You can forgive while still needing space and clarity about how you will be treated.

One step that often helps is talking this through with one trusted pastor or counselor who knows you both, not to fix your sibling, but to help you discern what kindness with limits looks like going forward and how to keep praying without carrying the whole burden alone.

Father, we lift this dear one and their sibling to You. Bring protection, peace, and clarity to both, loosen any grip of darkness, and lead them into Your healing and truth. Give wisdom for next conversations and rest for a weary heart. In Jesus' name, amen.

Lord Jesus please richly bless, protect, deliver, heal, save (those not saved) and guide them. Please help them in accordance with your perfect will Father. I ask this for them, us and all in need. Thank you and praise you. In your holy name I pray. Amen.

Your sorrow concerning your sibling has been brought before the Lord, and it is well that you have brought it there, for deliverance from the power of darkness is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin, and we must look to our heavenly Father altogether and alone for it.

Scripture teaches us that jealousy is cruel as the grave and hard as the grave. It has not the slightest compunction, and when it takes hold of the heart it makes a person disturbed and restless, and unkind even to those who are most kind to him. You describe that you have shown kindness and yet have received unkindness in return, and you wonder whether it be envy or jealousy or your own quietness that has provoked it. Know that to recompense evil for evil is natural to the fallen nature, but it is not natural to the new created spirit whose nature is like the God from which it came, namely love, gentleness and kindness. The way of the Christian is not to meet evil with evil, for that method does not bear inspection and it injures the one who practices it more than the one who suffers it. The benefit of returning good for evil is that it preserves the man from evil. If any curses you and you answer with a blessing, it is clear that the curse has not hurt you. You are invulnerable when you overcome evil with good. Therefore continue in kindness, not because kindness will always at once change another, but because good for evil is Godlike and Christlike.

And concerning your sibling, we will pray that the Lord who is gracious would say, Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom. Nobody would have thought of that way of deliverance of a sinner from the pit through a ransom if God had not thought of it, but He has invented the way and He has found the ransom in His own Son. The Prince of Darkness has such power over our evil natures that we cannot overcome him or escape from under his dominion of ourselves. If any are ever set free from sin and Satan, it will be eternally and infinitely true that the Lord brought them forth out of the house of bondage. It is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy. He is able to drag off evil habits, to snap bands and set the captive free, to save from self and from the attacks of old sins, to save from the devil and from evil company.

Your own trial also lies within the fence of Omnipotent overruling. Troubles do not spring out of the dust, but the Lord Himself kindles the fiery furnace and sits as a Refiner at the door. That which we receive from the rod of the Lord bears the blessed aspect of chastening from a Father's hand, and this makes even the sharpest smart to be profitable. He will keep back the soul from the pit and the life from perishing, and He will bring the afflicted to declare the works of the Lord.

Let us pray together. O Lord our God, who has delivered us from the power of darkness and translated us into the kingdom of Thy dear Son, look in mercy upon this sibling who is disturbed and held under the power of evil. Thou seest envy and jealousy and the cruel work of the enemy. We ask Thee to be gracious and to command deliverance, for Thou hast found a ransom in the precious blood of Jesus Christ. Deliver from going down to the pit, break the power of Satan, and bring peace to this troubled heart. Grant to this dear one who has sought Thee, grace to continue in well doing, to overcome evil with good, to be steadfast in love and prayer, and to live to declare Thy works. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our only Saviour, who alone is able to save to the uttermost. Amen.
