Estate Settled

Hearing how long this has stretched on, nearly four years since your loved one passed, and how you are longing for these five valuations to be accepted so the estate can finally be settled as intended, you have been heard in prayer.

It is understandable that this waiting feels so prolonged. Scripture speaks of a time when people repeated a proverb that the days drag on and every vision fails, as if what was promised would never come in their lifetime. Even the apostle Peter said that in the last days people would question where the promise of His coming is. But the Lord answered that He will speak and what He speaks will come to pass, and it will not be endlessly prolonged. What He has said He will do, He will do, and you will see it in your own days. That truth can speak to a long legal process as well. What feels indefinitely delayed is not unseen by God, and He is able to bring what has been prolonged to its appointed fulfillment. We are asking Him to bring clear resolution now, that these valuations would be received and accepted, and that the estate would be settled in a way that honors what was intended, so that you and your family can move forward in peace.

This long wait has also been carried alongside grief, and grief itself can make time feel even heavier. The Bible shows us friends who came to comfort one who suffered and, seeing how great his grief was, could only weep and sit in silence, not knowing what to say. It reminds us that deep sorrow often leaves us without words, and that we sometimes torment ourselves replaying the past, wondering what we could have done differently. Scripture also presents Jesus as a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief, one who looked upon grief with compassion. When a father received the crushing news that his daughter had died, Jesus spoke to him with tenderness and said do not be afraid, only believe. He has compassion for those who mourn a loss, and He understands the ache that remains years after a loved one is gone. Joseph too knew long years of grief through betrayal, false accusation and imprisonment, and only later could see how God was working through what he could not understand at the time.

The psalmist described how grief can consume the eyes and the heart, making it feel as though life itself is spent in sorrow, as if a good day will never come again. Yet that same psalmist testified that God takes off the sackcloth, the clothing of mourning, and girds us with gladness. Pain and grief, though never welcomed, are often the tools God uses to shape character and to reveal His comfort and strength in us.

So we pray for you now. Father, in the name of Jesus, we lift up this family and this estate before You. You know the loss that is still felt after these years, and You know the weariness of waiting for paperwork and valuations and decisions. We ask that You would give favor so that these five valuations are accepted without further delay or dispute, and that the estate may be settled rightly and peacefully as it was intended. Grant wisdom and cooperation to all who must agree, remove obstacles that have prolonged this matter, and let there be a just and timely conclusion. Comfort every heart that still grieves, turn mourning toward gladness in Your time, and give rest and peace as You close this chapter. Help each one to wait on You and trust Your care, knowing that You are compassionate and that Your word does not fail. In Jesus name, Amen.
