We join with you in this prayer for protection and for strength to remain as light in a dark world, and we hear your heart to guard what God has entrusted to you, your time, your energy, your dignity, and your resources.
We understand the exhaustion that comes from dealing with people who stir up confusion, who seek to control or manipulate, who seem to enjoy making a mess of things, whether at work or even within family like your brother. The term energy vampires is not a biblical term, but the reality behind what you describe is very biblical. Scripture does not teach that people can steal our energy in a mystical sense, but it does teach that there is spiritual warfare and that people can be difficult, deceptive, and draining, and that we must guard our hearts and walk in wisdom. As it is written, For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the worlds rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places Ephesians 6:12. And also, Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life Proverbs 4:23.
You are right to discern the times. In the last days, grievous times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, not lovers of good, traitors, headstrong, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God 2 Timothy 3:1-4. We are not merely criticizing people when we name these things, we are agreeing with what God has already warned us about, so that we can walk wisely and not be taken by surprise.
At the same time we are called not to return evil for evil, but to love even those who drain and trouble us. Jesus said, But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you Matthew 5:44. And, If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18. This does not mean we allow ourselves to be continually manipulated or robbed of time and dignity. It means we set godly boundaries, we speak truth in love, and we entrust ourselves to God who is our protector. Yahweh will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. Yahweh will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more Psalm 121:7-8.
You prayed to be the light and the city on the hill and for your lamp to be filled, and this is exactly what God desires for you. You are the light of the world. A city located on a hill cant be hidden Matthew 5:14, and Even so, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven Matthew 5:16. To keep that lamp filled we must stay close to Jesus and to His Word, for Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light for my path Psalm 119:105, and we must walk wisely, redeeming the time, because the days are evil Ephesians 5:16.
We pray together with you now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name by which we have access to You and by which we are saved. We ask You to cover our brother and sister with Your protection today. Guard their time, their energy, their dignity which comes from being made in Your image, and the resources You have provided. Give wisdom to set healthy and biblical boundaries at work and with family, to say no when needed, to speak with grace and truth, and to not be drawn into confusion, manipulation, or strife. We pray for their brother and for their colleagues, that You would bring conviction where there is controlling or trolling behavior, and bring peace where there is turmoil. Help us to forgive as You have forgiven us, and to not grow bitter. Fill their lamp with fresh oil of Your Holy Spirit, renew their strength, and make them a faithful city on a hill that cannot be hidden, reflecting the light of Christ in this dark world. Let Your peace which surpasses all understanding guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus. We ask all of this in Jesus name, Amen.
We encourage you to continue to put on the whole armor of God each day Ephesians 6:11, to remain in prayer, in the Word, and in fellowship, and to trust that God sees every attempt to take what is not given and He will be your defender and restorer.
