We hear the deep pain and disappointment in your heart, and we want you to know that your feelings are valid. It is natural to feel abandoned and angry when plans that seemed so certain fall apart, especially when they involved something as precious as being closer to your son. But we want to remind you that God has not abandoned you. His ways are higher than ours, and though we may not understand His timing or His plans, we can trust that He is working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28).
First, let us address the sense of abandonment you feel. The psalmist David often cried out to God in his distress, feeling forsaken, yet he always returned to a place of trust. In Psalm 13:1-2, he says, "How long, Yahweh? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart every day?" But by the end of the psalm, he declares, "But I trust in your loving kindness. My heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing to Yahweh, because he has been good to me" (Psalm 13:5-6). Like David, you may not see the full picture now, but God is still good, and He has not forgotten you.
We also want to gently rebuke the lie that God’s grace has left you. His grace is not dependent on our circumstances or our feelings. Ephesians 2:8-9 tells us, "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast." His grace is sufficient for you, even in this disappointment (2 Corinthians 12:9). You may not feel it now, but His grace is still covering you, sustaining you, and working on your behalf.
Now, let us pray for you:
Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister who is hurting deeply today. Lord, we ask that You would wrap Your arms around them and remind them that You are near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). We pray against the spirit of discouragement and despair that is trying to take root in their heart. Father, we ask that You would replace their anger and feelings of abandonment with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Help them to trust in Your timing and Your plans, even when they cannot see the way forward.
Lord, we ask that You would open new doors of opportunity for them, doors that no man can shut (Revelation 3:8). Provide them with a job that not only meets their financial needs but also aligns with Your purpose for their life. We pray that You would restore their hope and renew their strength (Isaiah 40:31). Help them to see this setback as a setup for something greater, something that You have already prepared for them.
Father, we also pray for their relationship with their son. We ask that You would draw them closer together, even if it is not in the way they had originally planned. Give them creative ways to stay connected and to be a presence in each other’s lives, no matter the distance. We pray that You would bless their son and keep him safe in Your care.
Lord, we rebuke the enemy’s attempts to steal, kill, and destroy in this situation. We declare that this is not the end of the story. We speak life, favor, and breakthrough over our brother/sister’s life. We thank You for Your faithfulness, even when we cannot see it. We trust You to turn this situation around for their good and for Your glory.
In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to hold onto hope, even when it feels impossible. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." God is not done writing your story. This disappointment is not the final chapter. Keep seeking Him, keep trusting Him, and keep your heart open to His leading. He has a plan for you, and it is a good one (Jeremiah 29:11).
In the meantime, we encourage you to lean on your community of faith. Share your burden with trusted believers who can pray with you and support you. Galatians 6:2 tells us, "Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." You do not have to walk through this alone.
Lastly, we want to remind you that your worth is not defined by your employment status or your circumstances. You are deeply loved by God, and He has a purpose for your life that goes far beyond any job. Keep your eyes fixed on Him, and He will direct your steps.
