The Lord will perfect that which concerneth you, this is the confidence in which you stand, and it is well. All the purposes of man have been defeated, but not the purposes of God. The promises of man may be broken, many of them are made to be broken, but the purposes of God shall stand, and his promises shall be fulfilled. You speak of God’s perfect timing, and you are wise not to rush or persuade his actions. He is using the quickest method to perfect that which concerns your soul.
Faith is the hand of the soul, and without it, we have no grasp of eternal things. You have come to God believing that he is, and that he is a Rewarder of them that diligently seek him. This is the foundation of all our faith and hope, Christ is all. You received Christ at first as being made of God unto you wisdom, and sanctification, and righteousness, and so on. Rest there still, not in feelings, nor experience, nor graces, nor anything of your own, living and resting alone on him who is made of God unto you all that your soul requires.
You speak of your friend, and you doubt not that he shall perfect all that concerneth you both. God is all eyes and all ears, and all his eyes and all his ears are for his people. Are you distressed in heart? God sees your distress. The face of God sheds such a holy light into the soul that the clouds of slander cannot hide it. He can give you that increased faith which shall fix your heart in the sphere of perfect satisfaction in the Lord and patient waiting for his will.
The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry. What is it that God sees in man’s heart? He sees, and has seen, lust, and blasphemy, and murder, and adultery, and malice and wrath, and all uncharitableness. But there is One whose sight is keener than that of Satan, it is he, the all-seeing One, our Father and our God. All things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. And yet, the blood is on us, and we are the sanctified instruments of his grace; moreover, we are the perfect instruments of his grace through the blood of Jesus. Our standing in the sight of God is a standing of perfection; and when he sees the blood, God passes over our sins, and accepts us at the throne of his mercy, as if we were perfect.
All the weight of your trouble, all the weight of your backsliding, all the weight of your evil heart of unbelief, all these the everlasting arches of divine mercy can and will sustain. So swift is prayer to reach the heart of God, and so swift is God to come to the help of his people. It is God that girds you with strength, and makes your way perfect. He makes your feet like hinds’ feet, and sets you upon your high places. Your sins, which are many, shall be forgiven you, and you shall go on your way rejoicing in hope of the glory of God, even as you are rejoicing in the assurance of the love of God. Amen.
