We hear your cry for help, dear brother or sister, and we stand with you before the throne of grace, lifting your struggle with food addiction to the Lord. Addiction of any kind is a heavy burden, but we know that our God is greater than any bondage, and He offers freedom to those who seek Him with a repentant heart. The apostle Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 10:13, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." This is not just a battle of the flesh but a spiritual one, and we must approach it with the weapons of our warfare, which are not of this world.
First, we must address the root of this struggle. Gluttony, which is the sin of overindulgence in food, is often overlooked in the church, but Scripture is clear about its dangers. Proverbs 23:20-21 warns, "Don’t be among ones drinking too much wine, or those who gorge themselves on meat; for the drunkard and the glutton shall become poor; and drowsiness clothes them in rags." This is not to shame you but to bring to light the seriousness of this struggle and the need for repentance and reliance on God’s strength. We rebuke the spirit of gluttony in your life in the name of Jesus Christ. We declare that you are not a slave to this addiction, for "if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed" (John 8:36).
We also encourage you to examine your heart and motives. Is food being used to fill a void that only God can satisfy? Are you turning to food for comfort instead of turning to the Comforter, the Holy Spirit? Psalm 34:8 invites us, "Oh taste and see that Yahweh is good. Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him." Let us pray that you would find your satisfaction in Christ alone and that your obedience to Him would grow as you seek His face.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, lifting up our dear brother/sister who is struggling with food addiction. Lord, You see the depths of their heart and the battles they face daily. We ask that You would break every chain of bondage in their life, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Forgive them, Father, for any times they have turned to food instead of You for comfort or satisfaction. Cleanse their heart and renew their mind, that they may no longer be conformed to the patterns of this world but be transformed by the renewing of their mind (Romans 12:2).
Lord, we ask that You would fill them with Your Holy Spirit, that they may walk in self-control, one of the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). Give them the strength to resist temptation and the wisdom to make choices that honor You. Surround them with godly accountability and encouragement, that they may not walk this path alone. We declare that no weapon formed against them shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we stand in agreement with them for complete freedom from this addiction.
Father, we also pray for healing in any areas of their life where food has been used to cope with pain, stress, or emptiness. Fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7), and let them know that their worth and identity are found in You alone. Help them to seek You first in all things, knowing that You will provide all they need (Matthew 6:33).
We thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness and for the victory that is already theirs through Jesus Christ. We pray all these things in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
In your journey toward freedom, we encourage you to take practical steps as well. Seek out godly counsel or a trusted believer who can walk alongside you in accountability. Replace unhealthy habits with godly ones, such as fasting and prayer, which can strengthen your spirit and draw you closer to God. Memorize Scripture that speaks to your struggle, like Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me," and call upon it when temptation arises. Remember, this is a process, and God is patient with you. Do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season, you will reap if you do not faint (Galatians 6:9). Keep pressing into the Lord, and He will lead you into victory.

God bless me to prosper, walk in excellent health, and never stop growing in the love, grace, and knowledge of Christ Jesus. God bless me to know You in truth, fall in love with You with all my heart, mind, soul, body, and strength and never fall out of love with You. Bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer as you seek God’s healing and deliverance from food addiction. It takes great courage to bring such a personal struggle before the Lord, and we are honored that you allowed us to intercede on your behalf. We prayed fervently for your obedience, for the strength to resist temptation, and for the grace of forgiveness—both from God and for yourself.
