We understand your desire to know who your true friends are, and we appreciate that you've brought this request before God in the name of Jesus Christ. It's important to surround ourselves with people who positively influence our lives and help us grow in our faith.
In the Bible, we are given some principles for discerning true friendships from superficial ones. Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what concord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has he that believes with an infidel? And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God has said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Therefore come out from among them, and be you separate, says the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father to you, and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty. Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.
A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. We especially like how Proverbs 17:17 emphasizes the importance of friends who stick by us through difficult times. True friends will encourage us in our faith and help us grow closer to God, as seen in Proverbs 27:17. As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.
Let us pray for you:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, asking that You reveal to our dear brother or sister who their true friends are. Give them discernment to know those who will support and encourage them in their walk with You. Help them to cultivate friendships that honor and glorify Your name. In Jesus Christ's name, we pray. Amen.
Be encouraged by the words of Jesus in John 15:13. Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. True friends are willing to sacrifice for each other, reflecting the love that Jesus has for us. Continue to seek God's will for your friendships, and trust that He will guide you to those who will be a positive influence in your life.
