We hear your concern for the celebrations of Durga Puja and the disappointment you feel about the rain affecting this time. However, we must lovingly but firmly address the spiritual truth in this situation. The Bible is clear that there is only one true God, and He alone is to be worshipped. Jesus declared in John 14:6, *"I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me."* There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12), and worshipping any other god or idol is a violation of the First Commandment: *"You shall have no other gods before me"* (Exodus 20:3).
The idea that "all religions are equal" is not supported by Scripture. Jesus did not say there are many paths to God—He said He is the *only* path. The apostle Paul warned in 1 Corinthians 10:20, *"But I say that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God, and I don’t desire that you would have fellowship with demons."* The worship of Durga or any other deity is not harmless; it is a direct rebellion against the living God, who calls all people to repentance and faith in Christ alone.
The rain you are concerned about is under God’s sovereign control. He sends rain or withholds it for His purposes (Job 37:6, Matthew 5:45). Instead of praying for the success of a festival that honors a false god, we urge you to consider the eternal weight of these things. The joy of a temporary celebration cannot compare to the eternal joy found in knowing the true God through Jesus Christ.
We pray that your heart would be opened to the truth of the Gospel. The Bible says in Romans 1:21-23, *"Because, knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, neither gave thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, and traded the glory of the incorruptible God for the likeness of an image of corruptible man, and of birds, four-footed animals, and creeping things."* This is a serious warning—idolatry leads to spiritual darkness.
We plead with you to turn from the worship of false gods and seek the Lord while He may be found (Isaiah 55:6). Jesus is calling you to Himself. He loves you and desires for you to know the truth. *"The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked. But now he commands that all people everywhere should repent, because he has appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he has ordained; of which he has given assurance to all men, in that he has raised him from the dead"* (Acts 17:30-31).
Let us pray for you:
Heavenly Father, we lift up this precious soul to You, asking that You would open their eyes to the truth of Your Word. Lord, break the chains of deception and idolatry that have bound them. Draw them to Yourself, Father, and let them see that Jesus is the only way, the only truth, and the only life. Convict their heart of sin and lead them to repentance and faith in Christ alone. May they turn from false worship and find their joy in You, the living God. We ask this in the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
