Drunk woman in hallway

Asteondion

Servant
Please pray for this woman I saw in the hallway, she was very drunk and she was dropping her things all over the floor. It is sad to see people in this condition. She needs to get saved, I think.

We join you in lifting up this woman you saw in the hallway and we thank you for having a compassionate heart toward her in her broken condition. It is indeed sad to see someone so overcome by drunkenness that she cannot even hold onto her belongings, and your desire to see her saved is right and pleasing to God.

The Bible is clear that drunkenness is sin and leads to destruction. Proverbs 20:1 tells us Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise. And Ephesians 5:18 says Don't be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit. This woman is enslaved to something that cannot satisfy and that harms her body and soul, but we serve a God who is able to deliver and to set captives free. 1 Corinthians 6:10 reminds us that drunkards will not inherit God's Kingdom, yet the very next verse offers hope that such were some of you, but you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and in the Spirit of our God.

You said she needs to get saved and we agree with you completely, and we want to gently point out that you did not mention the name of Jesus in your request. We want to remind you that it is only through Jesus that any of us can be saved and have access to the Father. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 declares There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. To be saved means to confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, as Romans 10:9 teaches, and to turn from our sins and trust in His shed blood for forgiveness.

We pray together for her now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this woman to Your throne of grace. Lord, You know who she is even though we do not know her name, You saw her in that hallway, and You love her. We ask that You have mercy on her and convict her heart of her need for a Savior. Deliver her from the bondage of alcohol and from whatever pain or emptiness is driving her to drink. Open her eyes to see that drunkenness is sin and that You offer forgiveness and new life through Jesus. Draw her to Yourself, send someone to share the gospel with her clearly, and give her the faith to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved. Protect her from harm while she is in this vulnerable state, provide for her needs, and lead her to a place where she can find help and discipleship. We also pray for the one who saw her and interceded, that You would give them boldness and compassion to show Your love if they see her again, perhaps with a kind word, a helping hand, or a testimony of Your grace.

We encourage you to continue to pray for her whenever the Lord brings her to your mind and if the Lord gives you opportunity, to speak to her gently about the hope that is in Jesus. God desires that all should come to repentance, and your prayer may be part of His work in her life. We trust God to do what only He can do to rescue and redeem her.

We appreciate you writing in about the woman you saw in the hallway. It says a lot that you did not just step around her but felt sorrow for her and wanted prayer for her.

Seeing someone struggling in that way can stay with you, and it is understandable to feel helpless about what to do in the moment.

If you cross paths with her again and it feels safe to do so, a simple quiet kindness like helping pick up what she dropped or asking if she needs someone called can preserve her dignity without putting you at risk. If you are concerned for her safety, letting a building manager or staff know is also a caring step, so she is not left alone. You do not need to have answers for her whole situation to be a neighbor in that moment.

We join you in praying that she encounters hope and help beyond that hallway, and we are thankful your heart turned toward her salvation.

Father, we lift this woman to You. You know where she is tonight and what weighs on her. We ask You to keep her safe, to surround her with people who can help her well, and to draw her gently toward Yourself. Give our friend wisdom and compassion for any next moment You give them together. In Jesus name, amen.

Your compassion in this matter is itself a work of grace, and it is good that the Lord has laid this poor soul upon your heart for prayer. It is sad indeed to see one so overtaken, dropping her things and unable to stand, for it shows the burden of sin which she carries and the misery which strong drink brings upon its servants.

We will join you in bearing a burden of prayer for her, for while we cannot bear the burden of her sin for her, only Christ can do that, we can help her by carrying her case before the throne of grace. There is work for every believer to do in Christ's vineyard, and peculiarly the work of intercession belongs to those who have themselves tasted mercy.

Let us pray that she may hear the plain Gospel of salvation by divine grace through faith in Christ Jesus. The Scripture says, Whoever believes on him shall not be ashamed, and the Lord himself cries, Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth. There is no other way of salvation for any of us. Whether servant or master, whether harlot or drunkard, there is only one way, for he has concluded all in unbelief that he might have mercy upon all. Her good works cannot save her, and her sin cannot keep her away if she will look to Jesus.

The gospel is without money and without price. There is pardon there for drunkenness, pardon for oaths, pardon for lust, pardon for rebellion against heaven, for the sins of youth and the sins of age. Christ is salvation itself, and if she sees Him by faith she has seen salvation. May the Lord in mercy bring her to look unto Him and live, to believe with the heart unto righteousness and to confess with the mouth unto salvation.

We pray, O Lord, have mercy upon this woman whom our friend has seen in such sorrowful condition. Convict her of sin and of her need of a Substitute, and draw her to look unto Jesus and be saved. Deliver her from the power of strong drink and from the greater burden of a fallen nature, and give her a new heart and a right spirit. Grant her to know that salvation is not of blood nor of the will of man, but of God alone, and that it is freely given to all who trust in the Lamb of God. Hear the cries of those who intercede for her, and let this burden of prayer be answered for Christ's sake. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
