Dream life

Disciple of Prayer
I pray that i get my dream job soon. I would really love to work abroad already. I believe this is my calling. I know God has greater plans for me. Help me achieve my potential, Lord

We hear your heart’s longing for purpose and opportunity, and we join you in seeking God’s will for your life and career. The desire to work abroad and fulfill what you believe to be your calling is understandable, but we must always submit our dreams to the Lord, trusting that His plans are higher than ours. As it is written in Proverbs 16:3, "Commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed." And in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says Yahweh, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future."

However, we must also examine our motives. Is this dream truly aligned with God’s will, or is it driven by personal ambition, escape, or worldly validation? Philippians 2:3-4 reminds us, "Do nothing through rivalry or through conceit, but in humility, each counting others better than himself; each of you not just looking to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others." If your desire to work abroad is rooted in a genuine calling to serve God’s kingdom, whether through missions, ministry, or using your skills to glorify Him, then we can pray with confidence. But if it is merely about personal fulfillment or adventure, we must surrender that to the Lord and ask Him to refine our hearts.

We also encourage you to seek godly counsel and wisdom in this pursuit. Proverbs 15:22 says, "Where there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established." Have you spoken with spiritual mentors, pastors, or trusted believers about this calling? Are there practical steps you can take, such as further training, prayerful research, or even short-term opportunities, to confirm whether this is indeed God’s path for you?

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We lift up this dear one to You, asking that You would guide their steps and align their desires with Your perfect will. Lord, You know the dreams and longings of their heart, and we ask that You would either open the doors You want them to walk through or close those that are not part of Your plan. Give them patience to wait on You, wisdom to discern Your voice, and humility to submit their plans to Your greater purpose.

Father, if this dream of working abroad is from You, we ask that You would make the path clear, provide the resources, and grant favor in every step. If it is not Your will, we pray that You would redirect their heart toward what You have prepared for them, even if it looks different from what they imagined. Help them to trust in Your timing and to find contentment in Your presence, knowing that You are their Provider and Guide.

Lord, we also ask that You would guard their heart from pride, impatience, or discontentment. Remind them that their worth is found in You alone, not in a job, a location, or worldly success. May they seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness, trusting that all else will be added unto them (Matthew 6:33).

We rebuke any spirit of doubt, fear, or confusion that may be clouding their mind, and we declare that Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, will guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). Strengthen their faith to walk in obedience, even when the path is unclear.

Above all, Lord, we pray that this journey, whether it leads abroad or remains close to home, would be used to draw them closer to You and to bring glory to Your name. May their life be a testimony of Your faithfulness, and may they always remember that their true calling is to know You and make You known.

We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Continue to seek the Lord diligently in this season, dear one. Spend time in His Word, in prayer, and in fellowship with other believers who can speak truth into your life. Remember that God’s plans for you are good, and His timing is perfect. Even if the path looks different from what you expect, trust that He is leading you toward something greater than you can imagine. As it says in Isaiah 55:8-9, "‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways,’ says Yahweh. ‘For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.’" Walk in faith, and He will direct your steps.

Your longing to use your gifts in a way that feels like a calling is something we can resonate with deeply. It’s clear that you’re not just chasing a paycheck, you want your work to matter, and you believe God has more for you. That’s a holy desire, and it’s good to bring it before Him honestly.

As we walk alongside people who are wrestling with big vocational decisions, we’ve found that the quiet, everyday work of preparation can be just as sacred as the arrival. While you wait for that open door abroad, what steps might help you grow into the person who is ready to walk through it? Maybe that means researching travel or visa requirements, connecting with people who already work in your field overseas, or asking a trusted mentor to help you think through your strengths and blind spots. Sometimes God’s guidance becomes clearer as we simply take the next practical step, even a small one, rather than waiting for a dramatic sign.

We also know that a dream deferred can feel heavy. Your potential is not on hold, God is at work in you right now, often in unseen ways. He is faithful to lead, but He rarely shows us the whole map at once. So we’ll pray with you, not that every piece falls perfectly into place on your timeline, but that you’ll sense His steady hand as you keep moving forward.

Jesus, thank You for the gifts and ambition You’ve given this person. Give wisdom and patience in the search, open the right doors and close those that would pull them off course. Guard their heart from discouragement, and help them trust Your timing. And in this season of waiting, make them more like You. Amen.

When your heart beats fast with a holy ambition, and a picture rises before you of a life spent in some distant place, of work that seems to fit your gifts like a key in a lock, it is easy to think that everything hinges on the speed with which you get there. Every letter unanswered, every door not yet opened, can feel like an accusation. But I want you to consider a truth so solid that it can anchor your soul in the waiting: the Lord who planted that desire in you knows the appointed field and the appointed hour. Your life is not a haphazard scramble; it is an “appointed time.” Every day of it, including this one, when the way seems shut, has been measured out by a Father’s hand. The deep waters you long to launch into are only deep to you; to Him they are a pool in a garden, and He will lead you to them when He sees fit.

You speak of your calling, and you are right to believe God has put something in you that is meant for His glory. But remember this: the Good Shepherd does not drive His sheep from behind, cracking a whip of fear; He stands at the door of the fold and calls them by name. When the time is ripe, you will hear a voice that no one else can counterfeit, a drawing that is more than a wish, more than a reasoned plan, and you will rise up and follow without panic, because you know it is His. Until then, the delay is not neglect. It is, perhaps, the season in which roots grow deep enough to hold up a tall tree in a wide wind. The Lord Jesus spent thirty years in a quiet village before His public work burst forth. He knows how to prepare a life.

I know you feel ready. But there is a rest that comes, not from attaining the thing we want, but from realizing Who it is that wants us. Christ stands before you this moment with a love that no door in the world can shut. He says, “Come unto Me.” Not “come to your dream,” not “come to your future,” but “Come unto Me, and I will give you rest.” That rest is the deep, calm assurance that your worth does not hang on a job offer, nor your future on a plane ticket. You are already His, and He has already given you the greatest employment a soul can know: to abide in Him and bear the fruit of His grace wherever your feet happen to stand today.

Do not measure your life by the piece that seems missing. The tide will flow again. The fig that longs to ripen will be bruised in due season, and the oil of freshness will anoint your head when the Lord sees that you have waited long enough. You may yet stand amazed at how the pieces fit together, at how the very years that seemed wasted were God’s quiet workshop, fashioning a vessel fit for the work He had in view from the beginning.

Let your prayer be mellowed with this trust: not “Lord, give me this, and I will be happy,” but “Lord, I have already seen Your Son come down from the tree to dwell with me; I know that all the rest You give will be added in Your way and Your time. Until then, keep my heart satisfied in You.”

Lord Jesus, You who called a tax collector out of a sycamore tree and made him a son of Abraham, look on this dear soul who longs to serve You in a new place. Quiet the fret that rises when the answer tarries. Breathe into this waiting a peace that passes understanding, and let the hope that gleams ahead be anchored in the certainty of Your faithful love. If it is to be, fling wide the gate; if not, close it gently and give grace to see a better plan. Either way, hold the heart steady in Your own keeping. For You are our true home, and in Your presence is the only labour that never grows stale. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
