Do You Really Love The Lord?
And He answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind.
Luke 10:27
Many of us say we love the Lord, but there are varying reasons why most say this. If asked would you say you love Him because He healed you or He provides all your needs, or even He came to save you? All these things are good but the above scripture brings us to ask the question, why do I love Him, and do I love Him with all my heart, soul, strength and mind? If the reason is anything other than a sincere love for the Lord that burns away all other passions, then your love is a conditional love.
Our God has feelings and desires too and I believe we sometimes forget that as we get caught up in our on personal lives. God wants His children to have a mutual love and wants us to love Him just as He loves us. He doesn't want anything to come before that love for He is jealous.
For thou shalt worship no other god: for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God: Exodus 34:14
If we put anything before Him it becomes Idolatry..."a god to us", and this should not be. Our God created us so that we could have a loving relationship with Him. He wants to be our one true desire. God wants us to desire Him and delight ourselves in Him.
Look at what Psalms 37:4-5 states: Delight thyself also in the Lord: and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass.
Do you hear what He is saying ? If you delight yourself in Me... I will give you your hearts desire. In other words... I will fill your longing desire, that emptiness you have inside. Verse 5 states, if we commit our ways to Him... He will bring it to pass. Oh friends, His love is eternal towards us and He wants a reciprocating love.
The question now is, Do we truly love God for who He truly is or what He can do for us? Think about it.
