DO YOU KNOW GOD’S LOVE?
May the LORD direct your hearts into God's love and Christ's perseverance. 2 Thessalonians 3:5
How much do you love the Lord? Do you know how much God loves you? He loves you so much that He created you and He has a plan and purpose for your life. He knows all your inward thoughts, motives, desires and even your fears. You may have had a difficult childhood, teen years or your marriage now, but your Lord wants you to know that He is right there with you. Are you battling low self-esteem, anxiety or fear? Do you feel like a failure? You may have made some mistakes in your part of the marriage, but cry out to the Lord right now and ask for forgiveness. Tell the Lord your mistakes and repent, which means you want to totally change. He will forgive you and wipe your past failures and sins away completely.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him. Psalm 103:11-13
You are not a failure in God's eyes. God has a plan for you to be like a lump of clay and He will reshape you into the perfect husband or wife that He wants you to be for your marriage and your beloved spouse. Do not give up on your marriage, trust the Lord.
So I went down to the potter's house, and I saw him working at the wheel. But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him. Jeremiah 18:3-4
Today, allow God to remove all your hurts, failures, scars and past sins from your life. Let Him remold you as clay in His hands making you to be a prized collector's item that is treasured by the Creator. You may feel unloved right now because of what your spouse has been saying or is doing, but allow God to be your spouse for this season. Allow God to love you, guide you and direct your every step as He takes you on this journey of spiritual growth to become the husband or wife that you need to become.
In our generation, many young adults often marry young and possibly at least one or both of their parents did not show or speak love to them as children growing up. Often young adults date, fall in love, and then marry. Often a spouse never knows how to really love their husband or wife as their own parents were not good examples or they were raised in a single parent home and were not able to learn how to interact as a husband or wife. Did your parents teach you the permanence of your wedding vows or the covenant of marriage?
Society has accepted cohabitation and we often start relationships by living in sin before wedding vows are ever spoken, with couples making no commitment to their relationship. Never forget that God created marriage.
He replied, Have you never read that He Who made them from the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and shall be united firmly (joined inseparably) to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder (separate). Matthew 19:4-6 (AMP)
If I have described your past, cry out and know that your Heavenly Father loves you and wants to pour His unconditional love into your life. You can repent, ask forgiveness of all your sins, and become a believer, asking Jesus Christ to be your Savior and Lord of your life. After you have asked Jesus Christ into your life, He will touch and change your heart so that you can love even the most unlovable person, even if that person is your spouse who has hurt you. Now allow God to fill you up with His love.
As you heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love. 2 John 1:6
You need to learn how to love the irregular people in your life, but also love your enemies. You cannot do this unless the Holy Spirit fills you up with His love. At this moment, you may think that your spouse or the other person is your enemy because of all that they are saying and doing to you and to your marriage. Do not be deceived as that is another lie from the enemy. Your spouse has become blinded, brainwashed and taken captive by the enemy, Satan.
One of the first steps is for you to radiate God's love to your spouse, to the other person (if there is one) and to all the people you come in contact with daily. Always remember to ask yourself when you have a difficult circumstance come up, "What would Jesus do? Jesus loved sinners."
Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8
Do you know how important love is? Imagine if every spouse would live and walk in love for their spouse and children daily. What would happen? First, the strife, selfishness and anger would be removed from our homes. How often do quarrels start because one spouse is not acting or speaking in love? What is your tone when you speak to your family members versus your friends or church family? May you examine your own heart. How often could you stop the fighting, arguing or bickering that is happening in your home right now? May you learn how to live and walk in unconditional love in spite of what your spouse is saying or doing. A soft answer can often stop an argument.
A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs 15:1
Love never fails...And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. 1 Corinthians 13:8, 13
I pray that this devotional will encourage you to start walking, living and speaking in unconditional love toward your spouse, your children and even people at work! The enemy can be defeated by you walking in unconditional love daily. Tell the Lord that you want to be filled up with the Holy Spirit and His unconditional agape love right now. You will also notice that you will start to have more peace in your own heart. My prayer is that you will learn to walk in the love of the Lord every day.
Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Ephesians 5:1-2
