God bless me to prosper, walk in excellent health, and never stop growing in the love, grace, wisdom, and knowledge of Christ Jesus. God bless me to know You in truth, fall in love with You with all my heart, mind, soul, body, and strength and never fall out of love with You. God, bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. We hear the honesty in your question and we share it with you before the Lord, because many of us have wondered the same thing when waiting feels long and the promise feels distant. We want to assure you that waiting on God is not a platitude we repeat to make waiting sound spiritual, it is a biblical reality that His timing and His plan are genuinely better, even when they are not easier or exactly what we imagined.
Scripture does not present waiting as passive delay but as active trust and hope. Psalm 27:14 says Wait for Yahweh. Be strong, and let your heart take courage. Yes, wait for Yahweh. Lamentations 3:25 says Yahweh is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. Isaiah 40:31 says those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings like eagles. They will run, and not be weary. They will walk, and not faint. And Isaiah 55:8-9 reminds us For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, says Yahweh. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
We have seen this proven true over and over in our own lives and in the lives of those we pray for, and it is not just that the outcome was bigger in a worldly sense, but that it was better in a way that shaped character, faith, and eternal good, which is what Romans 8:28 promises when it says We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.
We think of biblical examples that we return to often. Abraham and Sarah waited many years for the promised son and when Isaac finally came, he was not just a child but the fulfillment of a covenant that would bless all nations. Joseph waited through betrayal and prison, and what looked like forgotten years became the very preparation God used to save many lives. David was anointed as a young man but waited years before becoming king, and that waiting refined him and taught him to rely on God rather than his own hand. In each case waiting was painful, but God's plan was not only bigger than what they imagined, it was more redemptive than they could have imagined at the time.
We have also walked with many who can give present examples. We have prayed with those who chose to wait for a godly marriage rather than settle for a relationship outside of God's design, including waiting to honor God with purity and not giving in to fornication or living together before marriage, and later God brought a believing spouse who loves Christ and honors marriage as a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman. That waiting felt costly at the time, but the marriage that followed was far more peaceful and Christ centered than the relationship they almost settled for. We have prayed with others who waited on God for employment or for healing or for reconciliation in family, and while God did not always give exactly what was first requested, He gave what was exceedingly more according to Ephesians 3:20 which says Now to him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. Often His bigger and better meant more holiness, more dependence on Him, and a testimony that could then encourage others, rather than simply more comfort.
We also want to gently address something we noticed in your request. You speak of God and His plan, but you do not mention Jesus Christ. We say this in love because there is no access to the Father and no fulfillment of His good plans apart from Jesus. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Waiting on God truly begins with trusting in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of our sins, believing that He died and rose again, and receiving Him as Lord. It is only through Him that we can know God's will and experience Jeremiah 29:11 which says For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future.

Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, and we thank You that You hear us. We lift up this honest heart that is asking whether waiting on You is truly worth it. Lord, reveal Yourself as faithful and true. Help us all to wait with hope and not with cynicism, to trust that Your timing is perfect and Your plans are for our good and Your glory. Forgive us when we doubt and when we call Your promises platitudes. Renew our strength as we wait for You. It is no mere platitude that Scripture sets before you when it says, Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart: wait, I say, on the Lord. This is not a pretty sentiment to fill a gap when we have nothing else to say, but it is the proven path of all those who have walked with God and found Him faithful.
You ask if His plan after waiting has been truly bigger and better than what we imagined. I answer that it has, and that experience has proven this. For God is to be waited on, and courage is to be maintained while we wait, and waiting upon God will itself sustain courage. Blessed are all they that wait for Him. God's waiting people wait only upon God. They are not trusting to the arm of flesh, nor looking to the changeable creature. They wait upon Him expectantly, looking for everything from Him, for He is their All in All, and they wait upon Him patiently for many things, knowing that His time is best.
Consider how this has been seen. I have known a young man who prayed for years for a wife, and was tempted to take one by his own hasty choosing, yet he waited upon the Lord and kept himself pure, as becomes those who would enter into that lifelong covenant of one man and one woman which God has ordained. In the Lord's own time there was provided for him a godly helpmeet, and a marriage built upon prayer and purity, which has proved far richer in joy and holiness than any union his own impatience could have secured. He will tell you now that what God withheld for a season, He restored with increase.
I have known another, a tried believer, who waited long for bread, for work, for deliverance from a heavy affliction, and thought God had forgotten. He waited not as one who does nothing, but as a traveler waiting the directions of his guide, or a mariner waiting upon the pilot who takes charge of his ship. He trusted in the Lord forever, for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength. And when deliverance came, it came in such a way as to show more of God's wisdom and love than if it had come at the first asking. He was chastened, but he was never cast out, he still continued as God's pupil, and he learned that the Lord's delay was but to make the mercy larger when it arrived.
And is this not the testimony of Scripture itself. Joseph waited in the prison before he sat upon the throne. David waited many a weary year after his anointing before he wore the crown. Even our Lord waited thirty years in obscurity before His public work began. In each case the waiting made the heart strong and the blessing sure.
