We hear the humility and honesty in your heart in asking the Father to keep you from murmuring when His answer is no, and we join with you in this prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, for you have come in the only name by which we have access to the Father.
Murmuring against God is a serious matter and scripture warns us about it. The children of Israel murmured in the wilderness and it displeased the Lord, as it is written Do not grumble, as some of them also grumbled, and perished by the destroyer 1 Corinthians 10:10. We are instead commanded to Do all things without complaining and arguing Philippians 2:14. When we murmur we are in essence saying that we know better than God, that His wisdom and His goodness are not sufficient, and we repent with you of that temptation.
We understand how hard it is when we pray earnestly and the answer is no or not yet or not in the way we hoped. Yet our Father's thoughts and ways are far above ours, for it is written For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways, says Yahweh. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts Isaiah 55:8-9. His no is never out of cruelty or neglect. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variableness or shadow of turning James 1:17, and even His withholding is for our good. We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose Romans 8:28.
We are encouraged to bring everything to Him but to do so with thanksgiving and trust, as it is written In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:6-7. And In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus toward you 1 Thessalonians 5:18. This includes thanking Him when the answer is no, trusting that He sees what we cannot see and is working for our sanctification and His glory.
We pray together for you now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the precious name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We thank You for this dear one who desires to honor You even in disappointment. Forgive us all for the times we have murmured and complained instead of trusting You. We ask You to create in this heart a spirit of contentment and surrender. Help us to trust in You with all our heart, and not lean on our own understanding, and in all our ways acknowledge You, that You will make our paths straight Proverbs 3:5-6. Give grace to receive a no from Your hand with the same faith as a yes, knowing that You withhold no good thing from those who walk uprightly. Guard this heart and mind with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, and teach us to say from the heart, not my will but Yours be done. Strengthen faith to believe that Your answer, even when it is no, is loving and wise and best. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.
