This may sound like every other christian but it's true. When you get into the Word and read, it renews your mind. Then we are to remember what we read and meditate on it. For instance if we lose our job, we remember than the scripture says God is our provider, so then we pray, Father I am believing you will guide me and provide a job for me; or finances because your Word tells me you will provide and your Word also says you are not a man that should lie. He may provide a job, or people giving or sending you money, or anyway He choses. God's voice is not literal or audible (although some may say so), it's in our inner man, our heart. I think of His voice kindof filling my whole being with a reassuring word, a stillness. Our mind tries to figure things out, which we are not to lean on our own understanding. We put God's Word in our mind to replace the vain imaginations from the past or come about during the day so then the Holy Spirit can speak back to us His Word to our spirit. When God is guiding you in an area of your life you will know by the peace you have. If it is your flesh or the enemy, there is seldom peace and quite a bit of doubt and just plain restless feeling, like "I shouldn't do this" It's quite a bit like the relationships down here on earth. You have learned to recognize certain friends voices when they call on the phone and you get to know them and their character. That's the way it is with Christ. When you read His Word and talk with Him, somehow He infuses himself in our life and we get to know His character and leading. You will just know it. Many times and for long periods of time we have to live by faith alone without hearing his guidance or unction. Just keep praying and knowing He is with you and works with your personality. I have been a christian for 30 years and I still struggle with the thoughts that come to mind that are not God's thoughts at all. Some are from our upbringing, from the world, the flesh and definitely the devil. That's why we need God's Word. It's hard to explain cuz He works with our personality and everyone hears differently. When adverse circumstances crush in on us or we have a fight with our neighbor or husband or we get sick or lose a job, we sometimes panic, which is wrong. And then we make quick snap decisions because we get scared but just stop, sit, refocus, read His Word and ask for wisdom and wait. His help in a time of trouble is more comforting and loving and humble and kind and genereous and all good you can think of than any other person on earth. He never condemns or criticizes even when we do wrong, he only teaches and leads us lovingly to the best possible plan for our situation, IF we ask seek and knock. We can do all things WITH Christ and can do nothing without Him.
Father, reveal your still small Voice to this dear one who is seekiing you. I believe she loves you and wants to do your will. Father let her be still enough to hear your direction during the day and give her a desire to read your Word. Thank you Lord, Amen
