Divorce

The pain of such betrayal cuts deeply, and I do not wonder that your soul is shaken. The Lord Himself, in the very hour of His passion, was handed over by one of His own, one who ate at His table, one called "of the twelve." Judas betrayed Him with a kiss, an accursed sign of friendship turned to treachery. If your Master endured this, then you too, who bear His name, will taste something of that cup. Let this not drive you to despair, but teach you that He is near to the brokenhearted.

Look to your own heart. If your conscience testifies that you have lived honorably in your marriage, without guile, then you have a comfort that no man can steal. Saint Paul gloried not in the absence of storms, but in the testimony of a pure conscience amid them. This is your crown, if you hold fast. The husband who now seeks a divorce has fallen into the snare of unholy desire, like one drunk not with wine but with passion. The love of money, or of fleeting pleasure, has made his soul mad. Pray for him, not with bitterness, but with the sorrow of mercy. It had been good for Judas had he not been born; do not let your husband perish without repentance.

What should you do? Follow peace with all men, as far as it lies with you, and pursue the holiness that belongs to those who fear God. If he departs, you are not defiled. The marriage bed is honorable, but there is a chastity of the widow that surpasses even the state of a virgin if it is spent in fasting, prayer, and good works. Do not seek a second union while he lives, but pour your sorrow into care for the needy and unceasing supplication. In this way your affliction will work out comfort for others, and through your steadfastness, the Lord may yet grant him repentance and reclaim his soul from the net.

Remember, in the world you will have tribulation. But the Master has overcome the world, and He is able to make you stand. Let the words of the blessed Paul be your anchor: "Whether we be afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation." Your suffering, borne with patience, becomes a witness. Let your soul not be swallowed up by grief, but offer it to God as a living sacrifice. The Church prays with you. May the Lord grant you strength, a quiet spirit, and the peace that surpasses all understanding.

I am holding you in prayer right now, grieved with you over the deep wound this betrayal has opened. When someone you have given your life to turns away and demands a divorce, the pain cuts to the very soul. Please know you do not carry this alone; the Lord is near to the brokenhearted.

What your husband has done is a serious sin against you and against God. Scripture never speaks lightly of adultery, and the marriage covenant is sacred, a union where two truly become one. That oneness is meant to be a living picture of unbreakable fidelity, and when it is shattered like this, the devastation is immense.

I think of the instruction the apostle gave to the church: a wife should not separate from her husband. But if she does, she is to remain unmarried or else be reconciled to him. And a believing spouse is not commanded to forcibly hold a marriage together if the other is determined to leave. If an unbelieving partner departs, the believer is not bound in such circumstances; God has called us to peace.

That does not make the situation less agonizing, but it may clarify what is within your power and what is not. If your husband is demanding a divorce and will not be turned from his course, the weight of that decision falls on him. Your call is to walk with integrity before the Lord, to pray, and to leave room for God to work. You are not required to fight tooth and nail to keep a man who has already given himself to another, but you are free to entrust yourself to the One who judges justly.

Sin often carries hidden consequences that surface later. There is a haunting that follows when someone trades truth for a fleeting pleasure, a paralysis of soul that can settle in over time. That is not a threat but a sober reality. I pray your husband awakens before he reaps that full harvest, that he repents and finds forgiveness. But whether he does or not, your hope is fixed on Christ, who will never leave you or forsake you.

Right now, lean into the church community around you. Let practical hands support you as you navigate this. Above all, keep crying out to the Father. He hears every word. I am praying for you to know His comfort in ways that surpass understanding and for a clear sense of His guidance in the days ahead. You are not forgotten, and your life has worth far beyond this marriage.

We want to thank you for trusting us with your heart in this painful season. It has been our privilege to stand with you in prayer as you walk through this trial, and we have lifted you and your marriage before the Lord daily, asking Him to intervene with His healing power. We prayed for reconciliation if it aligns with His will, for wisdom to guide your steps, and for peace to guard your heart as you wait on Him.

If God has moved in your situation in ways you can see—whether through restored trust, softened hearts, or unexpected grace—we would love to hear your praise report so we can rejoice with you. If the road ahead still feels uncertain or the pain remains heavy, please know we are not finished praying. We encourage you to post this request again so we can continue to intercede on your behalf, trusting that the Lord hears every cry of your heart.

May He draw near to you in this time, strengthen you with His love, and lead you in His perfect way. We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus.
