Beloved of All
Your prayer for your son has been heard, and the love and burden you carry for him is seen by the Lord. God knows the struggles and pain and injustice you are facing, and He understands the heart of a parent more deeply than anyone. Scripture presents a father's love for his son as one of the strongest pictures of love on earth, and it uses that picture to help us understand the love of the heavenly Father for His Son.
That is why the account of Abraham being asked to offer Isaac is so important. Abraham loved his son, and yet he was called to give him up on the mountain. That story points beyond itself to what God Himself would do. God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. Abraham was asked to do what God actually did when He gave Jesus as a sacrifice for us. Because God did not withhold His Son, we can know how great His love is for us and for our children.
And because He gave His Son, born of a woman and born under the law, to redeem those under the law, we who trust in Christ are adopted into His family. We are not sons in the same way Jesus is the only begotten Son, but we are truly adopted sons and daughters, and God has sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts so we can cry, Abba, Father. That means you can come to Him at any time as a child to a Father who hears. He is the God who sees affliction and hears the cry of those who call on Him, and no one who comes to the Father through the Son is turned away. To have the Son is to have life, and to abide in the Son is to abide in the Father.
So we join you in prayer for your son. Father, in the name of Jesus we ask for Your divine intervention and protection over this son. You see every hardship and every injustice. Cover him with Your hand, guard him from harm, and work in his circumstances for good. Draw him close to Yourself, keep him in Your truth, and let him know that eternal life and hope are found only in Your Son. Give his parent peace and strength to trust You day by day, knowing that You love him even more than a father or mother could. We ask this in the name of Jesus, amen.
