Divine guidance

Kensem

Beloved of All
“When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is joyful.”
Proverbs 29:18

Please pray in Jesus name that the former landlord submits to God and accepts divine guidance. He and the people around him have been really wild and disrespectful, and they have caused a lot of trouble.

We join you in bringing this situation before the Lord and we appreciate your desire to see your former landlord submit to God and receive divine guidance. You quoted Proverbs 29:18 well, where it is written, Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed. When people reject the Lord's instruction they do indeed run wild, and we see the fruit of that in disrespect, strife, and trouble as you have described.

We understand how painful and frustrating it is to deal with someone who has been disrespectful and has caused trouble, and we want to encourage you to guard your own heart even as you pray for him. Scripture teaches us to leave vengeance to God and to respond without bitterness, for it says, Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord. Romans 12:19. We are also called to pray for those who mistreat us, as Jesus said, Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you, Matthew 5:44. This does not excuse wild or lawless behavior, and we rebuke that spirit of rebellion and disrespect, for God calls all people to live in submission to Him and to walk in righteousness and peace with others.

We also thank you for asking for prayer in Jesus' name, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved, as it is written, There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 1 Timothy 2:5, and, There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. Your acknowledgment of His name is precious and we join our faith with yours in that name.

We pray together now. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace and we lift up this former landlord and those around him to You. We ask that You would open their eyes to their need for You, that they would humble themselves, submit to Your lordship, and accept Your divine guidance. Turn their hearts from wild and disrespectful ways to obedience to Your law and Your Word, that they may find the joyful and blessed life You promise to those who keep Your ways. We ask that You would convict them where they have caused trouble and lead them to repentance and to making restitution where it is right. Lord, we also lift up the one who has been affected by this trouble, grant them peace that passes understanding, wisdom to respond with grace and truth, and protection from further harm. Help them to trust in You with all their heart, and not lean on their own understanding, to acknowledge You in all their ways so that You will direct their paths, Proverbs 3:5-6. Give them a spirit of forgiveness and freedom from bitterness, as it is written, Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you, Ephesians 4:31-32. Let Your justice and Your mercy be done in this situation, and let all involved see that You are a God of order, righteousness, and love. We ask this in the mighty and holy name of Jesus, Amen.

We encourage you to continue to seek the Lord's guidance for yourself daily through prayer and His Word, for if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him, James 1:5. Continue to pray for this man even as you set healthy and lawful boundaries, trusting that God is able to change hearts that seem hardened and to bring peace where there has been trouble.

We understand how wearying it is when someone you had to trust with your home acts in a wild and disrespectful way. It can leave you feeling on edge even after you have moved on, and it makes sense you would want God to bring calm and order to that situation.

We are praying with you that your former landlord would turn toward God and be open to His guidance, and that those around him would also choose a more peaceful path. We also pray for your own peace as you leave this in the Lord's hands.

One thing that has helped others walking through ongoing tension like this is to pause and get clear on facts before deciding next steps. If you still need any contact with him, it can help to keep communication brief, in writing, and to invite a steady third person like a pastor or trusted mediator to be present if a conversation is needed. That kind of structure often lowers the heat and protects everyone.

We are asking God to give you wisdom for any remaining details and to guard your heart from carrying this burden alone.

Father, we bring this former landlord before You and ask that You draw him to Yourself and guide his steps toward what is right and respectful. Bring peace where there has been trouble, and give our friend wisdom, rest and joy as they trust You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your request has been heard and we join with you in prayer before the throne of grace, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, who alone is the way of salvation.

You have well quoted the proverb, When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild, but whoever obeys the law is joyful. Where the restraint of the word of God is cast off, men indeed run wild, and disrespect and trouble follow as surely as night follows day. For God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all, and He can have no fellowship with darkness. The wildness of which you speak is darkness, and it must be brought into the light if there is to be peace.

We will pray that the former landlord may be brought to stand in the light and to present himself before God as he is, that he may see his need and submit himself to divine guidance. We ask the Lord to work in his heart by the Holy Spirit, to turn him from his present course, to grant him repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, through whose blood alone sin is cleansed and whose perfect obedience alone can make a man joyful in keeping the law. We pray also for those around him who have joined with him in disrespect, that the Lord would restrain their evil and bring them also to a sound mind.

And for you who have suffered this trouble, we pray that you may know that peace, perfect peace, which Christ gives even when sorrows surge round. When we learn that our debt of sin is fully discharged by the Lord Jesus for all who believe, the heart is at peace. Leave your sorrow with Jesus, bear your sorrow with Him, and you shall find calm upon His bosom though duties press and troubles abound. May the Lord keep you in perfect peace as your mind is stayed upon Him, and may He make you to love His law, for in loving it there is great peace and no stumbling.

We commit this matter to our gracious God, who deals with His people as a shepherd with his sheep, and who hears the prayer offered in faith through His Son.

Our Father, we ask in Jesus name that Thou wouldst bring this man to submit himself to Thy gracious rule, to accept Thy divine guidance, and to walk in Thy light. Restrain what is wild and unholy, bring conviction of sin, and grant repentance unto life. And grant to Thy servant who prays, patience, wisdom, and joyful obedience to Thy law, with peace that passes understanding. Amen.
