Divine guidance

Kensem

Beloved of All
“When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is joyful.”
Proverbs 29:18

Please pray in Jesus name that the former landlord submits to God and accepts divine guidance. He and the people around him have been really wild and disrespectful, and they have caused a lot of trouble.

We join you in lifting this situation before the Lord and we agree with you that divine guidance is desperately needed here.

You have quoted Proverbs 29:18 well, where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint, but one who keeps the law is blessed. When people reject God's counsel and His Word, they do run wild as you have seen, and it leads to disrespect, strife and trouble for everyone around them. This wildness is not pleasing to God, for God is a God of peace and order and He calls all people to live with self control and respect for others.

We also hear your heart to not simply complain about this former landlord and those around him, but to see them submit to God. That is a Christlike response. Jesus teaches us in Matthew 5:44 to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us, and in Romans 12:18 we are told if it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. We know this is difficult when you have been treated disrespectfully and have endured trouble, but God sees what has happened and He is just.

We pray together in the name of Jesus Christ for this man.

Father in heaven, we come before Your throne in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We ask that You would extend Your mercy to this former landlord and to the people around him. Soften his heart and grant him repentance, that he would turn from wild and disrespectful ways and submit himself to Your divine guidance. Open his eyes to see that true joy and peace only come through obeying Your law and walking in Your ways. We ask that You would restrain any further trouble and cause him to act with honesty, respect and fairness. Lord, we also pray for Your protection and peace over the one who brought this request, guard their heart from bitterness and fill them with Your joy as they continue to obey You. Let Your will be done in this situation and let Your name be glorified. We also remember Your promise in 2 Peter 3:9 that You are not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance, and in Romans 12:19 that vengeance belongs to You and You will repay. Help us to trust You to bring justice and correction in Your perfect timing. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to seek divine guidance for yourself as well, to stay rooted in the Word and in prayer, and to not be overcome by evil, but to overcome evil with good as taught in Romans 12:21. The Lord will honor your obedience and He will be your defender and your peace through this trouble.

We can hear how heavy this situation with your former landlord has felt. When someone is disrespectful and stirs up trouble, especially with others joining in, it leaves you feeling on edge in your own community and longing for peace.

We are joining you in prayer that God would draw him toward His guidance and bring a calming of what has been wild and disruptive. We also pray for you, for steadiness and wisdom as you navigate any ongoing contact.

One thing that has helped others in lingering landlord or neighbor conflict is to give the situation clear structure. Keeping a simple written record of dates and what was said or done, keeping communication brief and in writing when possible, and leaning on a trusted pastor, elder or wise mediator if you need to interact again can keep emotions from escalating and protect your peace. You do not have to carry this alone.

Father, we bring this landlord and those around him before You and ask that You work in their hearts to seek Your ways. We ask for Your protection and peace over our friend, for wisdom for each next decision, and for Your presence to bring calm where there has been turmoil. We trust this to You in Jesus name, amen.

There is wisdom and mercy in bringing this burden to the throne of grace, for the proverb is true that when people do not accept divine guidance they run wild, but whoever obeys the law is joyful. You have done well to pray that the former landlord may submit himself to God, for the only radical and efficient cure for the great evil of iniquity is for the sinner to come back to God.

Bear this in mind, that the house in which we dwell in this life has God for its Landlord, and we are only tenants. Every man holds his lease from the Royal Owner, and he must give an account for how he has kept the house. A just tenant desires to restore to his Landlord his property unhurt, and to live as an occupier under such a good Master should live. When a man forgets this and lives as though he were his own master, he runs the mad career of sin and becomes wild and disrespectful toward his fellows. Pray then that this man may be brought to see that he is but a tenant, that his time is short, and that he must set his house in order before the Lord.

We will join you in praying in the Holy Spirit for him. Such prayer is humble, for the Holy Spirit never puffs us up with pride, and it pleads not upon our own excellence but begs for grace and mercy upon the ground of the name of Jesus. There is a name with God for pardoning iniquity, and depths of mercy still reserved even for those who have caused much trouble. Let us ask that the Lord would draw near to this man, that he might draw near to God, that his heart might be stirred to sorrow for sin and to joyful obedience.

And while we pray, let us also set a watch. As Nehemiah prayed and set a watch against the malice of enemies, so we must guard with jealous care our own souls and our testimony, and go on with our work for God, committing those who do wrong to Him to set them right. Do not treat the mercy seat as a place for light words, but be businesslike in prayer, asking plainly for what is needed, and then look for the answer. Our God sees fit to reserve the answer for a season for the trial of our faith, but the petition is heard and labeled for us in the treasury above, and in His time He will put it into our hand.

Let us pray together in Jesus name.

O Lord our God, Thou great Landlord of all, we plead Thy mercy through the blood of Jesus Christ, through whom alone salvation is found. Look upon this man who has run wild and has caused trouble, and grant him divine guidance. Subdue his heart, turn him from his disrespectful ways, and bring him to submit to Thy gracious rule. Draw him near to Thyself, that he may know Thy pardoning mercy and walk in joyful obedience to Thy law. Grant also to Thy servant who has prayed, patience in waiting, steadfastness in watching and praying, and the joy that belongs to those who obey Thee. Keep all from evil, and let Thy will be done. We ask this not for our own worthiness, but for Thy name's sake. Amen.
