Divine guidance

Beloved of All
“When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is joyful.”
Proverbs 29:18

Please pray in Jesus name that the former landlord submits to God and accepts divine guidance. He and the people around him have been really wild and disrespectful, and they have caused a lot of trouble.

We join you in bringing this difficult situation before the Lord and we agree with you in Jesus' name that God would bring divine guidance and order where there has been wild and disrespectful behavior.

You have quoted Proverbs 29:18 well, which in the World English Bible says Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed. We see this truth so clearly in what you describe. When people do not accept God's guidance and revelation, they cast off restraint and run wild, and that always leads to trouble, strife, and harm to others. The Word also teaches us in James 4:7 to submit therefore to God, and that is exactly what we are praying for this former landlord and those around him, that they would humble themselves, submit to God, resist the devil, and allow the Holy Spirit to lead them into repentance and respect.

We also hear your frustration over the trouble that has been caused, and we pray for you as well for peace and protection. God calls us to seek peace where we can, as it says in Romans 12:18 If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. And Jesus calls us to a higher response even toward those who mistreat us in Matthew 5:44 But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you. We rebuke the wild, disrespectful, and troublesome behavior you have endured, because it does not reflect God's law of love and it does not honor Him or love neighbor as self. Such conduct is sin and needs repentance.

We pray together now. Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him we have access to Your throne of grace. We lift up this former landlord and the people around him to You. Lord, soften their hearts and draw them to Yourself. Cause them to submit to You and to accept Your divine guidance and revelation. Remove the spirit of wildness and disrespect and replace it with a spirit of obedience, humility, and joyful keeping of Your law. Convict them of the trouble they have caused and lead them to make things right where they can. We ask that You would restrain further harm and bring order and justice according to Your will. For our friend who has brought this request, grant Your peace that passes understanding, guard their heart, and help them to trust in You with all their heart and not lean on their own understanding as Proverbs 3:5-6 teaches, acknowledging You so that You will direct their paths. Help them to not repay evil for evil but to leave room for Your justice and to walk in wisdom and lawful ways if further action is needed. We thank You that You hear our prayer in Jesus' name and we trust You to work in all hearts involved. Amen.

We encourage you to continue to pray for this man’s salvation and transformation, while also maintaining wise and lawful boundaries to protect yourself from further trouble. Keep seeking the Lord’s guidance for your own steps, remain in His Word, and trust that God sees all and will bring His perfect justice and mercy in His timing.

We hear how wearing this has been for you. Living with disrespect and ongoing trouble from a former landlord and those around him can leave you feeling on edge even after the tenancy has ended, and we appreciate you bringing him before the Lord rather than holding onto bitterness.

We join you in praying that he would turn toward God and welcome His guidance. True divine guidance is not just a feeling in the moment, it is God making His will and character known and inviting a person to walk in it. We can pray for his heart to be softened to that invitation, while also remembering we cannot control how another person responds. Our part is to keep our own hearts steady before the Lord and ask for wisdom for the next step in front of us.

One thing that has helped others in a similar spot is to keep the focus on what is yours to do now. Continue to entrust this man to God in prayer, and also give attention to healthy boundaries that protect your peace. If the trouble is ongoing, it can help to talk it through with a trusted pastor or wise counselor who knows your situation and can help you think clearly about any practical steps.

Father, we lift this former landlord and those around him to You and ask that You would draw them to Yourself and lead them into more peaceful, respectful ways. We also ask that You would guard our friend with Your peace, give clear wisdom for any decisions ahead, and let joy grow as they walk closely with You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your request has been heard and we will bring it before the Lord with you. You have quoted the truth well, where there is no vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he that keeps the law. When divine guidance is refused, wildness and disrespect must follow, for the heart without Christ knows no peace and no bridle.

We are moved to pray that your former landlord and those around him may be brought to submit themselves to God. True peace is not found in having our own way, but in being at peace with God through the ambassador whom God Himself has appointed, His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. There is no other foundation for peace, and there is nothing we can bring but to receive Christ as our All in All. Our prayer is that this man may hear the voice of Christ who says, that in Me you might have peace, and that he may turn from his present course to obey the Word and find that joyful life which belongs to those who keep it.

Let us pray together in the name of Jesus.

Our Father, we come in the name of Jesus Christ alone, through whom alone sinners are reconciled to You. We ask that You would work by Your Holy Spirit upon this landlord and those with him, to humble their hearts, to show them their need of a Saviour, and to bring them to submit to Your divine guidance. Take away the spirit of wildness and strife, and grant repentance and faith in the Lord Jesus, that their great debt of sin might be discharged by His blood and they might know peace within. For our friend who has been troubled by these things, we ask that You would keep him in perfect peace as his mind is stayed on You, and that even with sorrows surging round he may know that Jesus is on the throne and that You are working all things for the good of Your people. Grant protection, patience, and a quiet trust in Your providence until You make all things plain. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and our peace. Amen.
