Divine guidance

Kensem

Beloved of All
“When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is joyful.”
Proverbs 29:18

Please pray in Jesus name that the former landlord submits to God and accepts divine guidance. He and the people around him have been really wild and disrespectful, and they have caused a lot of trouble.

We join with you in seeking the Lord for divine guidance in this difficult situation with your former landlord and we agree with you that without God people do indeed run wild.

You quoted Proverbs 29:18 so well, Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint, but one who keeps the law is blessed. We see this truth lived out when people reject God's counsel and choose their own way, and the result is disrespect, strife, and trouble for everyone around them. We also remember Proverbs 3:5-6, Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Your former landlord and those around him need this very submission to God, to stop leaning on their own understanding and to acknowledge Him so their paths can be corrected.

We are encouraged that you asked for prayer in Jesus' name, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. As it is written in John 14:6, Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 reminds us, There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. We praise God that you are coming to the throne of grace through the only name that can bring true reconciliation and transformation.

We must also gently rebuke the wild and disrespectful behavior you have described, because Scripture calls us to a different standard. Such conduct is not pleasing to God and flows from a heart that has not submitted to His law and His guidance. We pray that conviction will lead to repentance, for God desires that all would turn from such ways. We also encourage you not to repay trouble with trouble, but to entrust justice to the Lord. Romans 12:19 says, Don’t seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord. And Romans 12:18 says, If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. We also remember the call of Matthew 5:44, But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you.

We now pray together.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this former landlord and the people around him to You. Lord, we ask that You soften his heart and grant him repentance, that he would submit to You and accept Your divine guidance and Your law. Bring conviction where there has been wild and disrespectful behavior, and cause him to turn from causing trouble to walking in restraint and righteousness. We pray You would draw him and those with him to the knowledge of Your truth and to salvation through Jesus. We also lift up the one who has been affected by this trouble, grant them Your peace that passes understanding, protection from further harm, wisdom in all dealings, and grace to love and pray even for those who have caused trouble. Let Your will be done and let Your joy and order be restored where there has been chaos. We ask all this in Jesus' name, amen.

We encourage you to continue to seek the Lord's guidance for yourself, to remain steadfast in prayer and in obedience to His Word, and to trust that God sees, God hears, and God will work for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.

We hear how wearying this has been with your former landlord and those around him. When someone who held authority over your housing acts wild and disrespectful, it leaves more than logistical trouble, it leaves a sense of being devalued. Bringing him before the Lord as you have is a right and caring response.

We join you in asking that God would draw him toward His guidance and give him a willingness to listen and turn. True guidance involves a destination, and we pray he becomes open to being instructed and led rather than continuing on a destructive path. At the same time we are praying for you, that you would know steadiness and joy as you continue to walk obediently, even while dealing with the aftermath he left.

One thing that has helped others in lingering conflicts like this is to separate what you can entrust to God from what still needs wise handling. If there are still practical loose ends with this landlord, keeping communication brief, in writing, and calm, and bringing in a neutral third party if needed, can keep things from escalating again. And for your own heart, it can help to notice the difference between deciding to release the debt you feel he owes you and the slower work of letting resentment and fear fade as you bring them to God repeatedly.

Father, we lift this former landlord to You and ask You to work in his heart and lead him toward Your ways. We ask for Your protection and peace over our friend who prayed, for wisdom for any remaining interactions, and for healing from the trouble caused. Guard and guide each step ahead in Jesus' name, amen.

Your request has been heard and we join with you in bringing it before the throne of grace. You have well quoted the proverb that when people do not accept divine guidance they run wild, but whoever obeys the law is joyful. Where the guidance of God is refused there is indeed a wild and disrespectful course, and trouble follows as you have sadly proven.

We are reminded that the house in which we dwell in this life has God for its Landlord and that we are only tenants. Every man holds his lease from Him, and none can live as though he were his own master. The former landlord of whom you speak, and those around him, are tenants under that same Royal Owner, whether they acknowledge it or not. Our prayer is that he may be brought to see this, and to pay his rent to the great Landlord with a willing and obedient heart, and to let the arrears be made up by grace.

We do not ask God to bless wildness or to smile upon disrespect, for He is good and does good and His law is holy. Rather we plead that He will awaken attention and awaken conscience, as John was sent to make ready a people prepared for the Lord. We ask that the Lord will show this man his need, that he may turn from his own way and submit himself to divine guidance. For there is still room at the table of mercy for the chief of sinners, and the Lord has a name for pardoning iniquity. For His name's sake we may beg for grace and plead for mercy, upon no other terms but those of grace can the Lord meet with us.

We pray also for you, that you may be kept in peace while you remain here, for your abode here is for your own good and for the glory of Christ. Live for eternity, live for Christ's glory, and behave as an occupier under a Royal Owner should behave. With such a Landlord, the best in the whole universe, be also a faithful tenant and trust Him even when others deal harshly with you.

Let us pray together in the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone salvation is found.

O Lord our God, our great Landlord and Sovereign, we come in the name of Jesus Thy Son who bore the sin of many and now intercedes at Thy right hand. We ask that Thou wouldst work in the heart of this former landlord and those about him who have run wild. Subdue his spirit, bring him to repentance, and cause him to accept Thy divine guidance. Turn him from disrespect and trouble making to obedience, that he may find the joy which belongs to those who keep Thy law. Forgive his sins through the blood of Christ and make him a new man. And grant to Thy child who has been troubled, quietness of heart, patience under wrong, and a steadfast trust in Thy goodness. Keep us all mindful of the time of our removal to another land, that we may live as those who must give account. We ask this in the saving name of Jesus our Substitute and Advocate, Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
